Whew-time is really flying. We've had another wonderful quilt show.  Congratulations to the Quilt Show Committee and all the others who volunteered to help on a job well done. I heard many glowing comments from people viewing our quilts.

Now, with the quilt show behind us, you can concentrate on completing your President's Challenge. "Unbound Imagination" is the title of the challenge and almost anything goes as long as it is in Red, Yellow, Blue, or Green. Your theme color can be one or all of these colors. Additional information for my President's Challenge can be found on our website.

Our last Guild meeting at the WDM Methodist Church will be October 28. The church has asked that we remove our library books by the end of the month. We will meet on Friday, October 31, at 10:00 a.m. at the Methodist Church to box up and move over 1,000 books.  Any and all help will be appreciated. We will move the books to the WDM Christian Church, our new meeting venue beginning January 2015.  If you would like to help move the library please contact me at uagena@netins.net.  Covered plastic boxes would be welcomed, especially if it rains.

As announced at our September Guild meetings, we will be combining the positions of newsletter editor and website coordinator.  Look for information about this new position in a future edition of Piecetime News

I hope you will grab a friend and come listen to our own wonderful JoAnn Belling at our October Guild meetings.

Thank You to Retiring Board Members

The year is winding down!  The Nominating Committee is making progress lining up next year's new Board members, but that also means that other members are ending their Board commitments.  Traditionally we have thanked the retiring Board members with a signed hatchet block to commemorate their service.  It's time to start making those blocks!

Start with a 4 1/2" neutral square.  Choose a print or batik fabric.  Cut (2) 2 1/2"squares.  Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each small square.  Place RST on opposite corners of the  larger neutral square.  Sew diagonally across each smaller square.  Trim the seam to 1/4" and press the remaining colored piece to the corner of the square.  Sign your block, date it, or even add a short message.  It's a great momento and way to thank our Board members for their time and efforts to the Guild.

Please bring your blocks to the December Tea on December 6.

The retiring Board members are:

Mildred Agena, President
Sue Conard, Corresponding Secretary
Marilyn Dillivan, Treasurer
Ann Reed, Program Chair
Nan Earll, Program Chair
Doris Coady, Director-at-Large
Coleen Hayes, Director-at-Large
Kathie Anderson, Quilt Show Chair
Deanna Wilson, Quilt Show Chair
Phyllis Blood, Community Giving
Karen Pavlik, Newsletter Editor
Susan Harn, Librarian
Terry Holt, Retreat

Thank you for your show of appreciation for our Board members.

Vice-President

Community Giving

It looks as if we are going to meet our goal of at least 50 twin quilts for the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus. Evidently everyone was very busy during July and August. We now have 43 finished quilts on hand, and we are assured that there are at least 7 (if not more) that will be turned in at the October meeting. So plan on attending the tea, on December 6, if you want to witness the YMCA dance!

We especially want to thank all of you who have completed and donated placemats this year. It appears that we have reached our goal and have sufficient items to meet the needs of our recipients. So for the time being, we will be happy to accept pillowcases, lap quilts, patriotic quilts, and of course, twin quilts for the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus, but would prefer no more placemats for a while.

After the October meeting, we will be completing the delivery of all the community giving items for this year. While we will give a complete report later, we do want you to know now that it has been an incredible year in terms of your generosity and awesome quilting skills. Thank you so much.

We plan to recognize those who participate in Community Giving on a monthly basis. Our thanks to the following people for their donated time and talent for the month of September. If we missed you, please sign the sheet next month.

October:  JoAnn Belling

JoAnn has enjoyed the sewing machine since she began producing her own clothes at age 12.  In 1965, she began quilting with heavy polyester fabrics and no formal instruction. Encouraged by a friend, she enrolled in classes in 1977 and has since designed numerous quilts and wall hangings. She has taught a variety of classes in the United States and Japan. Her influence in quilting has been felt from coast to coast. The Belling household has hosted a number of quilt groups for lectures and tours. Her finest work has been reproduced in national publications.

JoAnn has received Best of Show and other ribbons on her quilts at the Iowa State Fair and other competitions.  A total of 9 quilts have hung at Paducah, as well as, other national quilt shows.  The Quilt Room at Hotel Pattee, Perry, Iowa, is the site for "My Jacobean Garden".

Concepts of color and composition, which JoAnn uses in her photographic art, are applied to the designing of quilts, borders and quilt backart. All phases of quilting are enjoyed by JoAnn, but of greatest interest are the color and design portion. JoAnn's quilt lectures and trunk shows are both educational and entertaining.
