Newcomers
Newcomers Meeting

Newcomers meeting is the place to be, Ladies and Gentlemen!

We had a great program in May!  Many thanks to the Twisted Sisters small group for sharing almost 20 years of friendship quilts.  Jill Reber, Diane Crawford, Carmen Clark, Peggy Warner, and Cindy Ohmart showed close to 100 wonderful quilts.  Coleen Hayes and Doris Coady shared their board duties as Directors-at-Large.  Thank you all!

Our next meeting will be June 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Urbandale Library, Room B.  Susan Harn will speak about the Librarian job and Barb Smalley will present a program on the history of quilting.  All new members within a year of joining the Guild are welcome to attend.

I'm looking forward to seeing and meeting you soon!

Guild Programs & Workshops

Lisa Bongean will be speaking about wool applique at both Guild meetings on June 24. Lisa owns Primitive Gatherings Quilt Shop in Menasha, Wisconsin.  She is widely known for her applique patterns in cottons and wool.

In Wednesday's class you will make a wool table runner called "House on the Hill".  The kit for the class is $36.  In Thursday's class you will make a wool table mat called "Geranium Baskets".  The kit for this class is $26.

We still have room in both classes.  If you've ever been curious about working with wool these classes are a great way to try it out without investing in a lot of wool.

Deb Karasik will be speaking on paper piecing at our July Guild meetings.  The Wednesday workshop is "Turning Over a New Leaf" and Thursday's workshop is "Batik Wheels".  We still have a little room in each of these workshops.  If you've never tried paper piecing this would be a good opportunity to do a project that isn't too big .  Try it, it's easy!

See you at Guild!

Special
Special Group Meetings

These small groups welcome any member of the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild who wants to drop in at as many or as few of their meetings as one would like.
TAG: The Appliqué Group

The Appliqué Group meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Quilt Block at 10:00 a.m. Anyone interested in hand or machine appliqué is welcome. We are a very informal group, and usually talk and sew and then have show and tell. Some go to The General Store Eatery after the meeting for lunch. This is a great meeting for people who want to learn more because we have a good range of appliqué-ers from new to very experienced.

If you have any questions, please contact Donna Horn at donnasartquilts@msn.com.
