Newcomers
Newcomers Meeting

Come join us at the Newcomers meetings!  Now that it is warmer and the daylight is longer, it should be easier to get out on a Tuesday evening.  We meet at the Urbandale Library, from 6:30 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in Room B, the third Tuesday of the month.  The Newcomers meeting is open to all new members who are within one year of joining the Guild.  Newcomers was formed to introduce new members to how the Guild functions, meet other new members in a smaller, casual setting, and hopefully help them join or start their own small group.

Many thanks to Cathy Safris for explaining the volunteer work done by the Guild members with Creative Vision, and Mary Shotwell for sharing the work of My Brothers Keeper and our Guild's involvement.  Leigh Lussie, Linda Arndt, and Linda Montet from Laundry Basket Quilters joined us to show and explain their beautiful applique.

This month the Directors-At-Large, Doris Coady and Coleen Hayes, will explain their Board job duties.  The Twisted Sisters small group will present a short program on Friendship quilts.  Come join us!  As always, show and tell is welcome!

In a related note, the small group fairs held the two previous months resulted in eight members inquiring about joining a small group.  In all, 14 small groups are open to new members.  I have a list of the groups and their contact person. So if you are still interested in a small group, I will be glad to help you out.

Program
Guild Programs & Workshops

Karen Kay Buckley will be joining us this month from Pennsylvania.  She is an award-winning quilter.  In fact, her "Fiesta Mexico" quilt won Best of Show in Paducah last year.  Her 1:00 p.m. program at our Guild meeting on May 27 will be "From The Beginning".  "To Border or Not" is the title of her program at the 7:00 p.m. meeting.

Although Karen Kay Buckley's classes are full please consider putting yourself on the waiting list.  We have been able to let many people on previous wait lists into the classes.  You never know when someone will drop out.

We still have openings in Lisa Bongean's wool classes in June. Lisa's House on the Hill table runner class will be held on Wednesday, June 25.  The kit for the class is $36.  The Geranium Baskets table mat class will be held on Thursday, June 26.  The class kit is $26.  In both of these classes you can bring your own wool and still get the pattern for the projects.  That being said, her kits are wonderful!

We also still have room in July for both of Deb Karasik's paper piecing classes.  Both classes will be lots of fun!

See you at Guild!

Special Group Meetings

These small groups welcome any member of the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild who wants to drop in at as many or as few of their meetings as one would like.
TAG: The Appliqué Group

The Appliqué Group meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Quilt Block at 10:00 a.m. Anyone interested in hand or machine appliqué is welcome. We are a very informal group, and usually talk and sew and then have show and tell. Some go to The General Store Eatery after the meeting for lunch. This is a great meeting for people who want to learn more because we have a good range of appliqué-ers from new to very experienced.

If you have any questions, please contact Donna Horn at donnasartquilts@msn.com.
