It has been my honor to be at the helm of the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild this past year. I was aided in our voyage by a fantastic crew, otherwise known as the board of directors. Each and every one of them helped in keeping our ship on course.

Thank you members of the Guild. You attended the lectures and workshops to expand your knowledge of our craft. You entered your creations in our quilt show.

You volunteered your time and materials by making comfort quilts, making baskets and quilts for the August Auction, working at kids quilt classes, and staffing the State Fair Sew-In. Your volunteer time also made our show the shining crown of the year.

You the members have been the wind behind the sails of the good ship DMAQG.

Our 30 year celebration may be over, but let us continue to celebrate our craft and our friendship.

I now leave you in the very capable hands of Mildred Agena.

Bon Voyage,

Peggy Kirk Peggy Kirk

Gifts for Retiring Board Members

It was noticed that the tradition of giving hatchet signature blocks to retiring board members has nearly disappeared. We were saddened since this is a very personal way of showing appreciation for all the hours of work these people spend conducting the business of the Guild.

To keep it simple, we are asking for the hatchet blocks with the signature of the person giving the block. We are not asking for any specific color or type of fabric. The fabric will reflect the personality of the giver.

When each recipient finishes their quilt, it will be a scrappy quilt showing the diversity of the membership. Each quilt will be a cherished remembrance of time on the DMAQG Board.

Please bring your blocks to the December 7th Tea or the January or February general guild meetings.

The following people are retiring from their positions on the board:

Peggy Kirk
Barbara Hines
Deb York
Janora Hayes
Nancy Kucera
Pat Hjelmeland
Mary Martin
Karen Macon
Katherine Roccasecca
Emma Thomas-McGinnis
Judi Smith
President
Recording Secretary
Program Chair
Director at Large
Director at Large
Quilt Show Co-chair
Quilt Show Co-chair
Community Giving Chair
Co-editor
Website Coordinator
Co-librarian

Directions for 4" finished hatchet block

Cut the following for each block:

Background fabric: one 4 1/2" square

Accent fabric: two 2 1/2" squares

Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each of the accent squares. Place one on a corner of the background square. Sew on the drawn line. Square up. Repeat on the opposite corner. Use a permanent fabric marker to sign your block.

Thank You!

I would like to thank each and every member of the guild who either donated a little quilt or purchased one.  The guild depends upon the help of all its members to support our programs and the Silent Auction is a very important part of that support.  We made $3,182.50 on the items donated this year.  The Silent Auction always generates a lot of excitement at the quilt show.  I feel privileged to be a member of the Quilt Show Committee.  Thanks again - I couldn't do it without your help!

Leigh Lussie

Silent Auction Chair

The gift certificates do expire so check the expiration date on your gift certificate and use them to sign up for workshops at the December Tea.

We want to send a big Thank You out to all of the small groups who generously provided treats this last year. We really appreciate your support.
