Newcomers
Newcomers Meeting

The 2013 Newcomers group will hold its last meeting onOct. 15th.  I cannot believe this is our last meeting. What a pleasure it has been for me to meet all of you this year.

I hope you have benefited from meeting all our board members and learning what each position does to contribute to the functioning of the DMAQG.

I am pleased that two new members will be filling two board positions as we confirm new board members at the Dec. 7th tea. I hope you have enjoyed the mini-programs that were presented for your enjoyment and learning.

Please join us for our last Newcomers Meeting of 2013 on October 15th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Urbandale Public Library, Room B.  I know you will enjoy Ilene Bartos's trunk show.  Our Treasurer, Marilyn Dillivan, Newsletter editors Katherine Roccasecca and Karen Pavlik, and our Web-site coordinator, Emma Thomas-McGinnis will join us to talk about their duties.

I encourage you to bring Show and Tell. Please remember no outside food or drink is allowed in the library.

Hope to see you on the 15th!

Future
2013 Workshops

Quilt show mania is behind us for another year and, as the weather cools more each week, it seems appropriate to focus on a more cozy, traditional style of quilting.

Pam Buda designs and uses many Civil War reproduction fabrics for her Heartspun Quilts company and will have us all ready to wrap up in something warm by the fireplace. She has dozens of quilts to show us that I hope will inspire you to take at least one of her workshops.

This will be your last opportunity in 2013 to participate and there is an experimental format for you to try. If you work and have found it difficult to take time off for workshops, this month you have the chance to take a half-day class. And at half the price as well! The projects are quick and would make fantastic Christmas gifts.

This is my last newsletter article as the Des Moines Area Quilters Guild Program Chair. As hesitant as I was to accept this position, I must say it has been far more interesting and fun than ever expected it to be. It has been the best opportunity to spend quality time with the national quilting instructors, but my favorite part was getting to know so many of our guild members through the various workshops and committees we participated in together. If you volunteered to assist me in any fashion this year, please accept my heartfelt THANKS! You were all very much appreciated!
