Establish a Return-to-Work Program
A return-to-work program is a practical approach to returning injured employees to a safe and productive work environment. Although injured employees may be unable to perform their regular jobs, they can often do alternative, productive work while recovering fully from injuries.

A return-to-work program can reduce the cost of lost time due to injuries and can keep an injured employee contributing to your organization. Injured employees who stay at work also receive support from co-workers and feel productive.

HAZCOM Changes

OSHA has implemented an update to the HAZCOM standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). OSHA is now aligned with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification of Chemicals (GHS). Your company must train all employees on the changes to the standard by December 1, 2013. WCF seminars will be taught throughout the year to assist with understanding these changes.
Visit OSHA's HAZCOM page for more details or contact your WCF safety and health consultant.

Major changes to the Hazard Communication Standard

  1. Hazard classification: Provides specific criteria for classification of health and physical hazards, as well as classification of mixtures.
  2. Labels: Chemical manufacturers and importers will be required to provide a label that includes a harmonized signal word, pictogram, and hazard statement for each hazard class and category. Precautionary statements must also be provided.
  3. Safety Data Sheets: Will now have a specified 16-section format.
  4. Information and training: Employers are required to train workers by December 1, 2013 on the new labels elements and safety data sheets format to facilitate recognition and understanding.
