Come to the 13th Annual Youth Fishing Fun Day

2010 Youth Fishing DerbyBring the Family for a Day of Fun!   
On June 6, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge will hold its 13th Annual Youth Fishing Fun Day. Youths 15 and under can pre-register for the event or register at the pond on June 6. The first 100 registered participants will receive a hot dog lunch and goodies. Fishing poles and bait will be provided, or bring your own. Beginners are welcome. We currently have three eggs on the Blackwater NWR Osprey Cam and hatching could occur at any time. We'll post updates on the Osprey Cam page once we confirm a chick has arrived. Be sure to visit the Osprey Cam page to follow the action.
Volunteers Needed for Interpretive Bus Tours

Share the Beauty of Blackwater 
Blackwater NWR Interested in sharing with others the wonders of Blackwater NWR?  Serve as an interpretive tour guide on the Wildlife Drive for visiting motorcoach groups throughout the summer months (June 4, 10, 11, 12 and July 15 at 2:45 pm). If interested, please call 410-901-6124.

Blackwater NWR Volunteers Recognized

Annual Volunteer Awards Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recognized volunteers of Blackwater NWR at its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Thursday, April 16. The Friends of Blackwater sponsored the awards dinner at the Elks Lodge 1272 in Cambridge in celebration of the contributions made by volunteers to Blackwater Refuge. During 2014, 139 volunteers donated 11,798 hours of their time to the Refuge, which is equivalent to nearly six full-time staff. Learn more about the awards on the Star Democrat website.
