Come to the 12th Annual Youth Fishing Fun Day

2010 Youth Fishing DerbyBring the Family for a Day of Fun!
On June 7, Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge will hold its 12th Annual Youth Fishing Fun Day. Youths 15 and under can pre-register for the event by calling 410-901-6124 or register at the pond on June 7. The first 100 registered participants will receive a hot dog lunch and other "freebies." Visit the FWS Blackwater NWR website for details about registering and participating on June 7.
New Chick on the Blackwater Osprey Cam

2013 Blackwater NWR Ospreys Chick Hatched June 1
Our osprey couple on the Blackwater Osprey Cam have been very impressive this year. They returned from migration on time and quickly set about filling their empty nest with many sticks. Three eggs soon appeared, and on June 1, the first chick hatched. We feel hopeful the other two eggs will hatch later this week. Visit the Osprey Cam page to follow the action.
Eaglets Flying on the Blackwater Eagle Cam

Glider and Chaser Now Flying
If you missed the announcement on our website, Cheryl Keosky from Saratoga Springs, New York was the winner of our 2014 Eaglet-Naming Contest with the names Glider and Chaser. It appears that both chicks are now flying, and although they're gone from the nest quite a bit, you can still see them perching in the branches of their nest tree on our Eagle Cam page.

BPPA Adopts a Road at Blackwater

We wanted to give a big "thank you" to Blackwater Paddle and Pedal Adventures, who recently adopted a road near Blackwater NWR. We sometimes have a problem with litter out on our country roads, so it was great to see BPPA helping us out by adopting a road near the Wildlife Drive to keep it clean for visitors and the wildlife that sometimes gets attracted to the roadside by garbage. Thanks, BPPA!
