ATM: Awareness Through Movement on Saturday Mornings
UUCH Adult Religious Education focuses on the whole spiritual person--mentally and physically. We are starting another series of Awareness Through Movement® classes. Those who came to the first series found it very enjoyable, relaxing, and useful. The class focuses on gentle movement that can assist us in being more comfortable and pain-free in our everyday activities. Come learn how to use the core of your body to improve movement, balance, and chronic pain.
Everyone is welcome! This verbally guided Awareness Through Movement® class is for anyone who wants more ease and comfort in their movements. Class is drop-in, no experience necessary, and will be led by Sally Locklear. Wear comfortable, loose clothing, and bring a bath or beach towel to use as head support for comfort in side-lying.
These classes will be held on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m., beginning August 27th. For further information, contact Adult RE chair Nancy Finley.
If you need childcare for this event, please contact Nancy at least a week before the event

It's Not Too Late to Join the Choir!
UUCH Choir holds their weekly practices
each Wednesday, from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. Come sing with us! Childcare is available.
We Can Reachsmiley100
Your Social Justice Committee asks that we bring non-perishable food and personal hygiene items for the food basket this Sunday, to be donated to the Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP). Collection Baskets are located in the Foyer and in the Fellowship Hall.
Our Goal: 100 Food Items per month!
So please check your pantry, and/or pick up an extra item on your next shopping trip.
Suggested donations: macaroni and cheese, pasta and sauce, dry beans and rice, boxes of cereal, bars of soap, canned meat, and peanut butter!
Also toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, sanitary napkins and tampons, shampoo and conditioner...you get the idea!
Thanks in advance!

Safe Space for Children and Youth
For the safety and enjoyment of our all-ages community, parents/guardians are asked to supervise children and youth in the church facility and grounds when they are not in their planned RE activity.

"Even To Question Truly Is An Answer"

The Reverend Denise Gyauch

This week, we will explore questions as a useful response to life--to the world and its problems, to each other, and to ourselves. Unitarian Universalists tend to be folks who ask questions, but perhaps we also over-focus on their answers or the process of finding those answers. Might the formulation of questions itself be a transformative practice? What makes a good question, and how do we live with our questions?
This Sunday in Children and Youth Religious Education
ice cream cones Celebrate the end of our Summer RE program and welcome in the new Fall season! We will have a fun time with games and creative activities that will launch our new year together! Come play with your friends and make new ones! Church families, members, and friends of all ages are invited to join us on the playground after church for an ice cream social!

Childcare for children age 3 and under will be provided as usual.

CYRE Start-up Activities Calendar:
  • Sunday, September 4th. Our annual Big, Fun RE Clean-Up Day. Children and youth will meet with teachers in their rooms to set up and decorate their room for the year. (Yes, the Big, Bad RE Inspector will be there!)
  • Sunday, September 11th. All ages will participate in the Gathering of the Waters service in the sanctuary, a time to share our summer adventures.
  • Sunday, September 18th. Fall lessons with our new Soul Matters "Storysharing" curricula. YoUUth group will follow the service in the afternoon until 3:30 p.m
Rooms by age level for this year:
We've kept the same age and grade-based designations as last year: Peace (age 4 to grade 1); Justice (grades 2-3); Searchers (grades 4-6); and Transformers (grades 7-12). Our older YOUUTH group is grades 8-12. These designations will change in the coming year as we grow as a program and add new rooms.

justice scales
Our next Social Justice Committee meeting will be this Sunday, August 28th, at 9:30 a.m., in the Fellowship Hall. We will discuss fall projects and any ideas YOU have. We will have bagels, and childcare is available upon request. Everyone is welcome! For questions or for child care requests, please call Tonia at 256.882.9891.
"New UU" Class is for Everyone!
Sunday mornings, Sept. 11th, 25th, and Oct. 2nd, 9:00 a.m. in the Adult RE Classroom.
You don't have to be new to UU to join us for a fun discussion about what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist and learn more about UUCH. This three-part series explores important themes in UU congregational life, such as worship, theology, history, covenant, faith development, social justice, and membership. It focuses on introducing newcomers to Unitarian Universalism, but those who have been at UUCH for a while will also be able to share and connect with others as we explore our own beliefs and how they intersect with the UU tradition.
Childcare will be provided. Contact Nancy Finley (finleyn@uah.edu) for further information.

chalice w/rainbow flamehe Art of Facilitation
Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 p.m.
One definition of facilitation is to make easier or more convenient. At one time or another, most of us find ourselves in the role of facilitator. It might be a casual conversation over a family meal, or a structured meeting at work. Regardless of the setting, good facilitation requires a number of skills. Some of these skills are easily learned and some take time to develop. On Thursday September 15th, Rev. Alice Syltie and John Czachurski will facilitate an opportunity to learn more about, or perhaps enhance your own, facilitation skills. In addition to novices, seasoned facilitators are welcome and invited. Your experience will be of value to the group.
Location: Adult Religious Education Room
Child Care Available
For further information call the Reverend Alice Syltie at 256.527.6689.
Sewing Sunday in September!

needle-thread.jpg Join the Social Justice Committee and the UUCH Knit Wits on September 25th after church in the Fellowship Hall to sew fabric tote bags! These bags will be donated to First Stop to help their mission to serve the homeless community in Huntsville. If possible, bring your sewing machine and we will provide the materials (fabric, notions, etc.) Don't stay away if you can't sew--we will need helpers to cut the fabric for our very easy pattern. Snacks will be provided. If you have any questions, please contact Audrey Fox at  audrey.fox@gmail.com.
Sign Up for the UUCH Photo Directory!

Do you know the names of people in the pews with you during Sunday services? How many times have you had a great conversation with someone during coffee hour but forgotten their name a few minutes later?PhotoDir
A photo directory is a great way to help our members and friends make lasting connections. It's been four years since the last UUCH Photo Directory, and our church has grown and changed significantly since then.
We hope all members and friends will be in the new Photo Directory. Each participating family will receive a complimentary 8x10 photo, and a free directory! There is no obligation to buy additional photos, but they will be available for purchase if you want extras for friends and family.
Lifetouch professional portrait sessions will be held in the UUCH Fellowship Hall during the following dates and times:
Wed., 9/14/16, 2:00-9:00 p.m.
Thu., 9/15/16, 2:00-9:00 p.m.
Fri., 9/16/16, 1:00-8:00 p.m.
Sat., 9/17/16, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Sun., 9/18/16, 12:30-6:00 p.m.
Schedule your photography session today. Click here to sign up online, or look for the sign up area in the Fellowship Hall after church each Sunday through September 11th. Appointments are required. You can expect that it will take about an hour from the time you check in for your session until you finish reviewing your portraits.

The Photo Directory serves multiple purposes.
A Way to Remember
  • A snapshot of our congregation at this point in time
  • A free portrait of your family by a professional photographer
A Way to Connect
  • A reference guide for members and friends with photos and contact information
A Way to Serve
  • Each family who brings non-perishable food items to their photo session will receive $5 off their photo order (if they choose to buy photos). Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP) will reap the benefits of those food donations.
  • As a thank-you to the church, Lifetouch will donate $5 to UUCH for every family it photographs.
Looking forward to seeing YOU in our new Photo Directory!
votives Care List
At our Circle of Candles on Sunday,  August 21st, a rare occurrence--no requests for Candle lighting.

However, Rev. Syltie did light a candle of compassion for "victims of fire, flood, and human strife."

And we were glad to see Jessica Zelaya back for a visit!
