Chocolate and coffee...mmmm mmm good! If you are a coffee connoisseur, the Social Justice Committee invites you to visit the coffee table in the Fellowship Hall where the chocolate is sold to order your Certified Fair Trade and Organic coffee from the Kaffeeklatsch. Provide your name, contact info, type of coffee, grind, and amount you want, and deliveries will be made the following Sunday (unless you arrange otherwise). Should you not make it that next Sunday the coffee will go into the church kitchen's freezer with your name on it. All profits go in support of our Social Justice efforts.

"When Words Are Not Enough"

Jennifer Jonas, Music Therapist

Angel Hundley, Worship Leader

"Jennifer Jonas is a Music Therapist who has chosen to use her education in a career that touches and enriches the lives of the very old and the very young. If you are not familiar with Music Therapy, it is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Jennifer uses her training in a variety of settings, including schools, nursing homes and hospice. She brings healing and peace to those in need of rehabilitative therapy, as well as palliative care. You may already be familiar with Jennifer from her work in the community, or from the stories she is often invited to tell on Public Radio. I am certain you will find your time with Jennifer both educational and moving."

"Sing Celebration!" on  August 12th

Your UUCH Choir is holding a "Sing Celebration" on Wednesday, August 12th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. here at the church. We are inviting all former choir members--and anyone who may be interested in singing in the choir! Join us for an evening of eating, singing, and socializing! Child care will be available for this event.

Choir practice begins in earnest the next week (August 19th), and will be held each Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. So if you were thinking of joining the choir this year, please come play and sing with us!

"Cuba--Old Cars and Big Cigars"

You are invited to join Bob Weed and Barbara & Gary Hitt on Friday, August 28, 7:00-9:00 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall at UUCH for a presentation: "Cuba--Old Cars and Big Cigars".

We will be showing a multi-media presentation of our April trip to Cuba. Join us as we share our tour of Cuba with you, from the mountains to the sea, from old Trinidad to the Bay of Pigs to the metropolis of Havana. We enjoyed visiting with school children, talking to families in their homes and on their farms, and seeing artists working in their studios.

Bob Blends Right In.

We were often serenaded by musical groups as we enjoyed Cuban food, usually served with Vitamin "R" (Rum!). Avid birder Gary added 25 birds to his Life List; Bob chatted in fluent Spanish with the guides; while Barbara tried to capture the ambiance, the people, the merging of old and new Cuba.

Since we are considering our presentation to be an early Service Auction offering, we are asking for a donation of $10 to $20 for adults. Children are welcome at no charge. If needed, we will provide child care. We will provide light refreshments, (but no Vitamin "R").

Please RSVP to Barbara at [email protected]

or Bob at [email protected].

votives Care List

At our Circle of Candles on Sunday, August 2nd, candles were lit for:

Lynsie Lamitie, a circle of joy and sorrow: "My dad has just been diagnosed with stage-four lymphoma while visiting my sister in California. But he's already in his third day of aggressive chemo and seems to be responding well with no side effects."

The Aycock family, a candle of joy: "We have our nephew, baby Jeremy, with us this weekend. We also get to have him next weekend and have the court date that following Monday to see if we can get full legal custody. He feels like part of our home already! Yeah! Our family feels even more complete now!"

Addie Schuber (Amanda Schuber and Wanda Snoddy), a candle of joy: "Addie turned five on the 28th and will start kindergarten this Tuesday."

George Fletcher, a candle of joy: "I am happy to have my friend (and unofficially adopted daughter) Alexis Esneault with me today. She leaves for law school on Wednesday."

Heather Kyemba, a candle of joy: "I took Sophia and Torin to New Hampshire for a two-week vacation. It was a good to reconnect with family and friends."
