"The Larger Vision"

The Reverend Alice Syltie

and Denise Runnels

The UUA is an association of congregations supporting one another in the creation of communities committed to the moral and spiritual work of witnessing for justice, compassion, and equity in the larger world. Attending conferences that gather Unitarian Universalists from around the world helps make this vision clear. This year Denise Runnels was our delegate to the UUA General Assembly (GA) in Portland, Oregon. In addition to GA, your minister and professional staff have taken advantage of other Professional Development opportunities. We are excited to share insights and inspiration received from these gatherings that we believe are relevant to the mission, vision, and covenant of our congregation.

Also this Sunday we Share the Plate with Meals on Wheels. For more about the program, see the article below

This Sunday in RE

"Sit Still Like a Frog"

With school starting this week, we will discuss the benefits of mindfulness and try a few breathing techniques that will allow the children to better cope with stress, excitement, and the frustrations of being a kid. Come learn to Sit Still Like a Frog; observe and be aware, but don't act until the time is right. We will also discuss mandalas as meditation aids and color them.

Leaders will be Michelle Clark and Laurel Bollinger.

Nursery care (ages 0-3) will be provided as usual. For more information, contact Erin Reid, our Director of Religious Education (DRE) (256.694.6786 or  eereid@hotmail.com) or Jessica Zelaya, RE Chair (256.322.2210 or asuriai@yahoo.com)

Drum Power! Unity Drum Camp Concert!

It was an exciting week at the church, as a small group of "campers" learned the rhythms and cooperation of drumming. Want to hear what the Drummers learned? They'll be performing at Big Spring Park this Sunday afternoon (August 2nd) at 6:00 p.m.!

If you'd like to participate in future Drum Camps, please call or write the church office to be added to a contact list!
Last Chanting Group of the Summer Meets Monday, August 3rd

ohm This last get-together of the summer begins at 6:30 p.m., in the Adult RE/Library room.  We'll chant for about an hour, maybe longer if we get into it. If you already have a chant that is especially meaningful for you, we'd love to share it. Also feel free to bring drums & percussive instruments--it helps us keep a rhythm going! Contact Deedee Moore, at the church office, for more info: uuch@uuch.org.

"Sing Celebration!" on  August 12th

rainbow clef Your UUCH Choir is holding a "Sing Celebration" on Wednesday, August 12th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. here at the church. We are inviting all former choir members--and anyone who may be interested in singing in the choir! Join us for an evening of eating, singing, and socializing! Child care will be available for this event.

Choir practice begins in earnest the next week (August 19th), and will be held each Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. So if you were thinking of joining the choir this year, please come play and sing with us!

This Sunday, We Share the Plate*
with Meals on Wheels

STP logo The Huntsville Area Meals on Wheels program operates out of the Huntsville-Madison County Senior Center on Drake Avenue in Huntsville.

Meals on Wheels serves Huntsville seniors age 60 or over, who are unable to cook for themselves, have no one available to cook for them, and are primarily homebound. Meals on Wheels provides one nutritious meal Monday-Friday, year round (some holidays excluded). The meals include an entree, vegetable, fruit, bread, and milk. Volunteers deliver meals to the client's home between 11:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. There is no charge, but a donation based on income is suggested. Menus are planned by a Registered Dietitian. We cannot offer special diet meals. Our program delivers in the Huntsville city limits. stpmow

To see more about this program, visit the Senior Center Website: http://www.seniorview.com/meals-on-wheels.

*When we "Share the Plate," all cash collected on the first Sunday of each month in the quarter (July, August, and September), along with any checks noted as "Share the Plate," will be halved with the Meals on Wheels program.

votives Care List

At our Circle of Candles on Sunday, July 26th, candles were lit for:

Kathy Fisher, a candle of concern: "Please send positive thoughts and prayers to my son and daughter-in-law. Baby Colton fell last Sunday and fractured his skull. He's doing fine, they just have to be extra cautious for the next two months."

Michael Carson, a candle of joy: "I am very happy to have my parents, Mike and Valerie, visiting from Fort Myers, Florida today. Also I am happy to have baby Jude here for the second time to meet anyone that did not get to meet him last week. "

The Aycock family, a candle of joy: "We got blessed to be granted a weekend visit with baby Jeremy James next weekend right before the final court date. We will enjoy every millisecond and feel this is a good sign. "

Barbara Hitt for the Care Committee:

A candle of joy for Anne Rutledge. "I talked with Anne this week, and she is doing well. We've posted both Anne and her daughter Barbara's cell phone numbers on the Care bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. Barbara says if Anne does not answer, to call Barbara, because sometimes Anne doesn't hear the phone or can't get to it. And please, no calls before 11 AM Eastern time!" (You can also get Anne's numbers from Barbara Hitt or the church office.)

A candle of concern for Echo and Jack Long. "Echo has a four week break from her chemo and will have extensive surgery August 24th. I have set up a caring bridge website for her so that they can share health updates. And visitors to the site can sign up to provide meals for them and leave messages in the online guestbook. They are grateful for the love and support of their UUCH family. The link to the website is www.caringbridge/visit/echolong."
