bags of food

The Social Justice Committee's goal is to collect and donate 100 items per month. CAN you pick up an extra CANNED good, nonperishable food item, or personal care product next time you are out shopping? Please do, and put it in the basket in the church foyer to be donated to the Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP).

Thanks!

Awareness Through Movement on Saturday Mornings

UUCH Adult Religious Education focuses on the whole spiritual person--mentally and physically. We have started another series of Awareness Through Movement® classes.
The class focuses on gentle movement that can assist us in being more comfortable and pain-free in our everyday activities. Come learn how to use the core of your body to improve movement, balance, and chronic pain.

Everyone is welcome! This verbally guided Awareness Through Movement® class is for anyone who wants more ease and comfort in their movements.
Class is drop-in, no experience necessary, and is led by Sally Locklear. Wear comfortable, loose clothing, and bring a bath or beach towel to use as head support for comfort in side-lying.

These classes are being held in the Fellowship Hall on Saturday mornings at 10:00 a.m., continuing until further notice.
For information, contact Denise Runnels If you need childcare for this event, please contact Denise at least a week before the event.

Fair Trade is Good for Everyone!

Your Social Justice Committee is once again selling Fair Trade chocolate varieties from Equal Exchange, including Cocoa powder!

EE Choc Bar

Remember, Fair Trade products help ensure that:

1) Unjust labor practices, such as child slavery, are not used.

2) Farmers and workers are paid fair wages and have a voice in the organization to which they sell their products.

3) Environmental sustainability is held as an important goal.

Plus, proceeds are used to help fund Social Justice projects, and our congregation's purchase of Equal Exchange products supports the UUSC!

"New UU" Class

rainbow chalice What does it mean to be a Unitarian Universalist? Guided by the UU Tapestry of Faith Curriculum, this three-part series explores important themes in UU congregational life, such as worship, theology, history, covenant, faith development, social justice, and membership.

This program focuses on introducing newcomers to Unitarian Universalism, but those who have been at UUCH for a while will also be able to share and connect with others as we explore our own beliefs and how they intersect with the UU tradition.

Everyone is welcome! So mark your calendars now for the Sunday mornings of February 1st, 8th, & 15th in the Adult RE Classroom for this chance to learn and share. Meet for coffee or tea at 9:00 a.m.; discussion starts at 9:15. Nick Wilbourn and Nancy Finley will facilitate the discussion. Contact Nancy Finley (finleyn@uah.edu) for further info. If you need childcare, please contact Nancy at least a week before the event.

SoulCollage®--Find Your Creative Self

Many of you enjoyed this workshop in October, so Denise Runnels is bringing a cache of images, cards, and tools for this creative workshop that will help us make the most of our UU source that is personal experience. We will meet Monday evening, Feb. 2nd at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall, and create until 8:30 p.m. Ask Denise Runnels (drrunnel@gmail.com) if you have any questions!

Tumbled in a rich living collage, images constantly speak to us: in dreams, through art, and in our interpretation of the everyday world. Join us for an evening of imagery and inspiration as you start or continue building your own personal deck of evocative 5 x 8 cards.

Move from your linear language-based left brain into your creative image-based right brain... even if you have never done art or would not describe yourself as creative! Simply place and glue images you choose from those available.

If you need childcare for this event, please contact Denise at least a week before the event.
