Woohoo!!
In June, we collected 202 items for the HAP food pantry, well exceeding our monthly goal. Great job--thanks everyone! The bar has been raised; can we top 200 again this month?

"Building Home" UUCH Member Amanda Schuber
As we continue to think about the move to our new church home, we will examine the impact of community engagement as a call of our faith. Come learn about the amazing anti-oppression history of Habitat for Humanity and its connection to our new church building.
Although new to our congregation, Amanda Schuber has been a UU for two decades and has served in various capacities both in the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Tuscaloosa, AL, and for two years at UUA headquarters in Boston as the Administrator of the Office of Congregational Fundraising. She has also served as a board member for Interweave Continental and EqUUal Access. She focused on Oppression Studies while studying at the University of Alabama. Amanda is a life-long advocate for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender rights and has spent many years leading workshops on accessibility and diversity. She is currently the Family Services Coordinator with Habitat for Humanity of Madison County. In her "spare" time she travels the country working with UU congregations as a Beyond Categorical Thinking Facilitator, helping congregations examine biases in the ministerial search process.

Broadmor Briefing
Our general contractor, Lee Builders, has begun demolishing the remaining items in the sanctuary bathrooms in preparation for remodeling those bathrooms to make them fully accessible. They have also ordered the materials for the bathrooms and window replacements. The Hutchens Company is finishing the new HVAC systems for the sanctuary, foyer, and kitchen. We'll soon have air conditioning in those areas!
As we get closer to completing contractor activities at Broadmor, we will need lots of volunteer help to add the finishing touches to our new facility. Our next property workday will be Saturday, July 26th, so mark your calendars to come out and work on both interior and exterior areas of our new church home!

UUCH Board Report--June 2014 Meeting
The Board met for its June meeting, regularly scheduled for the 24th, on June 30th due to travel work and vacation conflicts for board members. The next regularly scheduled Board meeting is July 22nd.
The Board discussed upcoming professional development activities for the Minister, DRE, Choir Director, and the incoming Board President and Vice President. The Board also discussed Renovation/Transition issues and, having consulted both the Transition Team and the DRE, set a target date for the move to the new building in the early fall. The need for more focused work on the website and on UUCH branding to facilitate the growth needed to sustain the new building was also discussed. Finally, the Board approved UUCH continuing to participate in the UUA Retirement plan, which means maintaining our current policies.
Respectfully submitted,
Laurel Bollinger, Trustee-at-Large
