Where Do Your Donations End Up?
Your Social Justice Committee asks that we bring non-perishable food & hygiene items for the food basket, to be donated to the Huntsville Assistance Program (HAP). HAP is an interfaith network of Madison County congregations providing volunteers, information, and financial resources to help those in need. HAP focuses on those who need temporary assistance. HAP provides not only food boxes but also assistance with rent/mortgage and utility bills.
Our Goal: 100 Food Items per month! The basket is in the church foyer. Thanks for your generosity!

Ken has been performing folk and early pop music all over the country for more than 40 years. As a folk singer and guitarist, Ken plays the "classic" folk music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s--songs by such artists as Peter, Paul, and Mary; The Kingston Trio; Pete Seeger; Woody Guthrie; and many others. While based in Nashville, Ken performed as a solo artist, as part of the folk duo "Judith and Ken," and with the folk trio "The Folk Revival." He has performed in thousands of concerts, clubs, listening rooms, coffee houses, banquets, and festivals throughout the United States. Ken moved to Panama City in 1999 and continues to perform all over the Southeast, sharing his diverse repertoire and support for UU principles.

Monthly Interweave Potluck & Game Night is This Friday: Everyone is Welcome! UUCH's Interweave is an Outreach Group for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) people and their friends and allies. On the 3rd Friday of each month, we hold a "Potluck and Game Night" to eat, play, and have a good time in a "safe zone" for the LGBTQ. We hope that our allies will come out and join in the fun so that we have a good mix of LGBTQ and A's participating. UUCH Board Report from July 2, 2013
Due to scheduling difficulties, the June meeting of the Board was delayed until July 2nd. As a result of a motion at the Annual Business Meeting, the Board has revised and approved the minutes for the 2012 Annual Business Meeting; a copy will be available for review at UUCH (or contact Bobby Hall if you would like a digital copy).
The slate of committee chairs for the next church year was approved as submitted by the Nominating Committee; there are two committees currently without a chair: Care and Publicity. The Board is working to fill those positions quickly.
UUCH has been presented with an opportunity to have a candidate for UU ministry fulfill her internship here. Rev. Syltie is investigating that possibility.
As usual at recent Board meetings, we spent quite some time talking about the possibility and challenges of buying the property on Broadmor. The end of our time for Due Diligence work is quickly approaching. Progress is being made, but a date for a congregational vote has not yet been set.

Care List
In our Circle of Candles on July 14th, requests for candles came from:
Alice Dilbeck & Betsy Applegate, who "welcome their first grandchild, Cullen Nicholes. Cullen lives in Richmond, Indiana with his parents, Rachel Reavis and Will Nicholes."
Vicki Oehmen, whose candle represented "Joy that my cousin Bill Versteeg is now in remission from non-Hodkins lymphoma. Also in remembrance of my cousin Lydia Whitford who lost her battle with breast cancer a year ago." Ken & Lydia Hines, who shared this joy: "Going to visit our son in Seattle for his 40th birthday." Mona Smith, Kathy Heath, and Ed & Paulette Bernstein all asked for candles in remembrance of our longtime member and good friend Bill Wilson, who passed away on July 13th. Mona said "We remember him especially for his poetry, and as our auctioneer for the service auction." Kathy asked "Please keep his family in your thoughts."
When you fill out a Circle of Candles form to be read during the service, please indicate on the form if you do not want your concern mentioned in this newsletter.
If you have pastoral care needs, please contact the Reverend Alice Syltie at revaluu@aol.com.
