Class Will Prepare Residents for Severe Storm Season

Spring is traditionally the peak season for severe thunderstorms and tornado formation in our area. Mayor Becky Ames and the City of Beaumont Office of Emergency Management are hosting the National Weather Service SKYWARN Class on Thursday, April 25, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Beaumont Civic Center. This free educational seminar is designed to teach citizens about severe weather formation, how to recognize storm and tornado formations, and more. Miller Branch, Literacy Depot offering ESL Classes
The Maurine Gray Literacy Depot and the Miller Library will begin offering English as a Second Language Class for adults on Wednesday, May 1. The course will be held each Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. in the conference room at the Miller Library. The course is for intermediate to advanced learners. Registration Open for 2013 Summer Camp
Registration is open for the city's 2013 Summer Camp. Cost is $50 per child, per session, and two sessions will be offered: June 10 through July 12; and July 15 through Aug. 15. Camp runs Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center, 2930 Gulf St. Activities include basketball, football, soccer, table games, arts and crafts, and field trips. Lunch is included. A parent or guardian must attend one scheduled orientation. Pet of the Week Pet of the Week 
Hambone is a male tabby, not neutered and about 2 years old. He likes people and other cats. Hambone has been at the shelter for nearly three months, and he hopes to find an adopter soon.

 

The city animal shelter is located at 1884 Pine St., and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
