Local Nonprofit Honoring Mayor Becky Ames
Quota International of Southeast Texas will honor Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames at a gala and banquet on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the MCM Elegante. The event begins at 6 p.m. The group regularly pays tribute to local figures who have made significant contributions to the quality of life in Southeast Texas. Proceeds from a silent auction will benefit the 100 Club of Southeast Texas, a nonprofit organization that provides support for families of fallen police officers or firefighters. Young Artists Invited to Promote Summer Reading
Students age 6 through 18 are invited to submit artwork to promote the Public Library System's 2013 Summer Reading Program. The winning design will appear on the program T-shirts, and the top artist will receive two free movie tickets. Runners-up will have their artwork used on bookmarks. Get Started with E-Reading at Miller Branch
The RC Miller Memorial Library offers assistance with setting up electronic readers to borrow, read, and return e-books and e-audiobooks from the Beaumont Public Library System. One-on-one guidance is available by appointment on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Wednesdays from noon to 2 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 409-866-9487 Ext. 3250. Zumba is Back at Sterling Pruitt Activity Center The city's Recreation Division has brought Zumba classes back to the Sterling Pruitt Activity Center. Buttons is a 6-month-old female Lab mix. She will be medium-sized when fully grown. She's housebroken, but not spayed.
The city animal shelter is located at 1884 Pine St., and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
