The Beaumont Health Department's Vital Statistics Division received a Five-Star designation from the State of Texas for its performance in 2012. The award is based on timeliness, managing registration, improvement, training, and birth registration. The Texas Department of State Health Services Vital Statistics Unit oversees 525 registrars across the state, and awarded 47 five-star ratings for 2012. The only higher designation is exemplary. Marcia Gauthier, the city's vital statistics registrar, and deputy registrar Julia Dumas, oversee birth and death certificates registrations for the City of Beaumont.
