F I R E W O R K S - WHAT'S LEGAL?
Moon Township wishes all residents a safe and happy summer season. With the upcoming holiday weekend, here's a reminder of Pennsylvania state law concerning fireworks.

In Pennsylvania, the majority of fireworks are illegal, but that doesn't mean they all are. The variety packs of fireworks you see on the shelves at stores and in roadside tents that pop up during the summer months are legal. These legal fireworks include; sparklers or other handheld devices, fireworks that stay on the ground when they are ignited, novelty fireworks such as snakes, pops, snaps, etc. Problems occur when fireworks become airborne. According to state law, professional grade fireworks, like the ones seen at the township's Independence Day celebration, are illegal unless under operation of a permit. Permits are generally reserved for use by trained pyrotechnic professionals. As a rule of thumb, if the firework leaves the ground it is most likely not permissible. Those operating illegal pyrotechnics may be subject to law enforcement.

2014 VACANT PROPERTY
RECOVERY PROGRAM
Moon Township has been invited to participate in Allegheny County's 2014 Side Yard and Blighted Structure Program. The program gives residents the opportunity to improve their community by offering side yards and blighted structures to be purchased at a reduced rate.
There are certain stipulations to follow when applying to this program. Namely, the property you wish to purchase must be either adjacent to your property (side yard) or the property must contain a structure which you plan to demolish or rehabilitate (blighted structure). Structures slated for demolition must be considered a safety hazard.
Applications are due no later than August 30, 2014. There will be no more than five applications accepted per municipality at this reduced cost, so don't wait to turn in your application.
For information or to request an application, please contact the Allegheny County Economic Development department at (412) 350-1090.
