Supervisors Meeting Minutes Available Online
At the September regular public meeting the Moon Township Board of Supervisors honored the members, both past and present, of Boy Scout Troop 310 (pictured in photo above) for their commitment and dedication to bettering the lives of young men in the community by guiding them to become leaders. Eighty-six scouts of Troop 310 have attained the highest rank in scouting, Eagle Scout, earned by only about five percent of all Boy Scouts. Troop 310 has been active in Moon Township for 57 years, sponsored by Sharon Community Presbyterian Church.

September is National Preparedness Month
The Moon Township Police Chief, Fire Chief, Fire Marshal, Emergency Management Coordinator and Public Safety Director remind residents that September is National Preparedness Month. Residents should consider their role in preparing for disasters such as terrorist attacks and natural disasters including floods and high winds from hurricanes or severe storms. Visit READY.gov or FEMA.gov for more information on safety tips and what you can do to prepare for a disaster. |
Electronics Recycling Day
Saturday, October 5 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | Twp. Admin. Bldg. The Township of Moon's Environmental Advisory Council in partnership with JVS Environmental is hosting an electronics collection to collect electronic items ONLY including; printers, copiers, computers, laptops and televisions. Electronics collections are open to Moon Township residents, businesses and surrounding communities. |
Curbside Brush Pick Up
October 1 - November 1 | Monday - Friday
Curbside brush pick up will follow resident's regular garbage collection, simply place brush at the curb by 7 a.m. on pickup day. Brush should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter and it should not be bundled or tied. Leaves are not accepted for pickup during this time.

Tree Limb Drop-Off
Monday - Friday | 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. | Downes Fire Station The Public Works Department offers Tree Limb Drop Off year round. Tree branches should not exceed six feet in length and four inches in diameter and should not be bundled or tied. The township asks that residents do not discard of any materials at the composting site after hours unless special arrangements have been made with the township. To schedule a drop off during non-operating hours contact the Moon Township Administration Office at 412-262-1700. |

In celebration of Moon Township's 225th Anniversary the township is asking residents, both past and present, to share their favorite stories and memories of people, places and how the township has changed through the years. Twp. Advisory Boards - Accepting Applications
Moon Parks Advisory Board: Term expiring January 2016. The Moon Parks Advisory Board aids the township in long range planning of parks, open space and greenways throughout the township; reviews all park policies, regulations and rules; makes recommendations for modifications to the board of supervisors.
Cable TV Advisory Board: Term expiring January 2016. The Cable TV Advisory Board advises the director of the cable TV station in regards to programming, equipment, volunteers and all other areas relating to station operations; reports to and advises the Moon Township Board of Supervisors in regards to station operations and issues relating to cable television and franchise agreements.
Interested residents may submit resumes and applications to the Moon Township Board of Supervisors. Contact the Moon Township Administration Office at 412-262-1700 for more information. |
Oil and Natural Gas Development at PIT
A small area of Moon Township is part of the Oil and Natural Gas Development project that is made possible through a public-private partnership between CONSOL Energy, Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA). CONSOL and the Allegheny County Airport Authority have been providing project information to Moon Township officials and public safety staff for the citizens of the community. Hollow Oak Land Trust - Trail Maintenance
Montour Woods Conservation Area - Hassam Rd. near Montour Trail | Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
 Hollow Oak Land Trust is developing a sustainable trail system for hiking and biking in its 260-acre Conservation Area in Moon Township. Volunteers meet every Wednesday evening at the Montour Woods Conservation Area parking area on Hassam Road (just uphill from Montour Trail). Activities include pruning vegetation, digging rainwater features and raking debris. Work gloves and water provided, refreshments served afterward. Wear sturdy shoes or boots. MCA-TV Presents Four Part History Series
Moon Community Access Television premieres a four part history series in celebration of Moon Township's 225th Anniversary. Three of the programs were created by the Old Moon Township Historical Society and one is being created by Sharon Community Presbyterian Church. All four of the programs in the series are produced by MCA-TV volunteer and community producer, Earl Edwards. Watch the first two episodes of the series, "Travel Journals" and "The Great Estates", on MCA-TV Comcast channel 14 and Verizon FiOs channel 35 in Moon Township, Coraopolis Borough, Crescent Township, Findlay Township, North Fayette Township and Neville Township. MCA-TV Produces MHS Tiger Football
Moon Community Access Television is producing its twenty-eighth consecutive season of Moon Area High School varsity football. The production has evolved since the station's first football broadcast in 1985 into a five-camera production featuring high-quality graphics including a scoreboard, countdown clock and downs and yardage displays; slow-motion instant replay; sideline and play-by-play reporting. Moon resident Dave Merison and MCA-TV volunteer Pete Cepulis will provide commentary and analysis from the press box while a crew of MCA-TV volunteers handles the technical aspects of production.
All games are aired locally on Comcast channel 14 and Verizon FiOs channel 35. Call MCA-TV at 412-269-1191 for a DVD or Blu-Ray of this high-quality sports coverage. Games are also available to watch online at mca-tv.org.

MCA-TV is one of the most active volunteer groups in the township. Current MCA-TV volunteers who are Moon Township residents are encouraged to take their talents to the next level and sign on as a community producer. Community producers are responsible for providing the original and entertaining productions for MCA-TV to add to its programming schedule. Call MCA-TV today at 412-269-1191 to get your TV show idea on air. The staff will gladly assist aspiring community producers throughout the process.

2. Individuals who are between the ages of 16 to 18 years old interested in becoming a Junior Firefighter must attend high school and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company thanks residents for their continuous support of the Fire Company through donations and attending their events and activities.

MTVFC Offers Fire Extinguisher Training
The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company offers fire
 extinguisher training to small groups and organizations. Sessions include a brief lecture and hands-on training teaching each participant how to evaluate whether or not to fight a fire with an extinguisher and how to operate a portable fire extinguisher safely and effectively. Contact MTVFC Chief, John Scott, at 412-262-1700 ext. 435 for more information and to schedule a training session. Fire extinguisher training is free; however, donations to the MTVFC are greatly appreciated. |

Never feel alone with the Moon Township Police Home Alone Monitoring. This system automatically telephones a resident once or twice a day depending on their needs. The resident in need will receive this message, "This is the Moon Township Police Department. If you are okay, press 1; if you are not okay, press 2." If the resident presses number 2 or fails to press any number, an emergency contact will be called.
