Supervisors Meeting Minutes Available Online
At the June regular public meeting the Moon Township Board of Supervisors honored Moon Area School District Superintendent, Dr. Donna K. Milanovich, on her retirement.

Dr. Donna K. Milanovich's career as superintendent of Moon Area School District began in July 2007. She first began her career teaching second grade at Bon Meade Elementary School in Moon Township in 1975. She accomplished a number of noteworthy feats during her tenure at Moon Area School District including overseeing the construction of the new Moon Area High School in 2011, the renovation of the old high school to the Moon Area Middle School in 2012, and the construction of McCormick Elementary in 2007. Dr. Milanovich also initiated an extended-day kindergarten program which evolved into a full-day kindergarten program for all children beginning in the 2012-2013 school year and established the Moon Area Online Learning Academy to meet the needs of students who desire an alternative setting. The Township of Moon wishes Dr. Milanovich all the best and thanks her for her hard work and dedication to the community.

July Public Hearing - Robert Morris University
Robert Morris University presented a request to the Board of Supervisors at their June regular meeting in respect to the university's purchase of the former Holiday Inn on University Boulevard. A public hearing will be held during the Board of Supervisors July regular meeting on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 7 p.m. in the Moon Township Administration Building Auditorium. Robert Morris University has filed a request to amend Chapter 208 of the Moon Township Code of Ordinances, zoning to revise certain definitions, and establish the MEO Mixed-Use Education Overlay District and regulations regarding the same. This proposed ordinance is the subject of a zoning amendment request filed by Robert Morris University. |
Board of Supervisors Recognize Eagle Scouts
The Moon Township Board of Supervisors presented a proclamation to the following Boy Scouts on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout, an honor earned by only five percent of all Boy Scouts. Scouts must earn 21 merit badges, serve their troop in a variety of leadership roles, and complete a major community service project to earn this rank. - Dalton Pritt of Boy Scout Troop 310 earned 29 total merit badges and is an Ordeal Member of the Order of the Arrow. Pritt held the leadership positions of Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and served three times as Patrol Leader. Pritt's Eagle Scout Service Project involved the design and landscape architecture of the property surrounding the Boggs School in Moon Township, he worked with the Moon Parks and Recreation Department to design and landscape the area.
- Joseph Meyer Leibowitz of Boy Scout Troop 310 earned 30 total merit badges and is a member of the Order of the Arrow. Leibowitz held the leadership positions of Librarian, Scribe, Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Senior Patrol Leader. Leibowitz assisted with the creation of and planning for maintaining a food pantry at Living Way Christian Fellowship Church in Homewood for his Eagle Scout Service Project.

In celebration of Moon Township's 225th Anniversary the township is asking residents, both past and present, to share their favorite stories and memories of people, places, and how the township has changed through the years. Leaf Compost Available to Residents
 Composting material can be used for numerous landscaping projects. Residents are welcome to pick up leaf compost at the Downes Fire Station Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. This compost was collected from fall and spring programs within the township. Please call the Moon Township Administration Office at 412-262-17000 to notify pick up. |

Shredding Event
Saturday, June 15 | 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. | Twp. Admin. Bldg.
State Senator Matt Smith is partnering with State Representative Mark Mustio and Moon Township to offer a free shredding event for residents. Residents can bring boxes of unwanted documents that may contain personal information including Social Security, credit card or bank account numbers. Document shredding will occur on-site with the shredded paper later to be recycled. Shredding event information can be found on Senator Smith's website www.SenatorMattSmith.com or by calling his office at 412-571-2169 or toll free at 866-736-7477.

Hollow Oak Land Trust - Trail Maintenance
Montour Woods Conservation Area - Hassam Rd. near Montour Trail | Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
 Hollow Oak Land Trust is developing a sustainable trail system for hiking and biking in its 260-acre Conservation Area in Moon Twp. Volunteers meet every Wednesday evening at the Montour Woods Conservation Area parking area on Hassam Road (just uphill from Montour Trail). Activities include pruning vegetation, digging rainwater features and raking debris. Work gloves and water provided, refreshments served afterward. Wear sturdy shoes or boots. Become a Community Producer:
MCA-TV is one of the most active volunteer groups in the township. Current MCA-TV volunteers who are Moon Township residents are encouraged to take their talents to the next level and sign on as a community producer. Community producers are responsible for providing the original and entertaining productions for MCA-TV to add to its programming schedule. Call MCA-TV today at 412-269-1191 to get your TV show idea on air. The staff will gladly assist aspiring community producers throughout the process.
Anyone interested in becoming an MCA-TV volunteer may sign up for the four-week volunteer training course by e-mailing asergeant@moontwp.com or call MCA-TV at 412-269-1191. Volunteers can work with community producers and MCA-TV staff on shows in the studio and events in the township.

Take a Drive to the MTVFC Annual Car Cruise
Sunday, August 25 | 11 a.m. - Dusk | Moon Park
Cruise into Moon Park this summer for the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company's Annual Car Cruise. Take a walk through the display of collector cars while classic car owners show off their wheels. Enjoy some of the Volunteer Fire Company's famous char-grilled burgers and then check out the burnout pit that is sure to get engines revving and wheels spinning. All proceeds benefit the Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company.

Volunteer Requirements
1. Current resident of Moon Township
2. Individuals who are between the ages of 16 to 18 years old interested in becoming a Junior Firefighter must attend high school and be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company thanks residents for their continuous support of the Fire Company through donations and attending their events and activities.

MTVFC Offers Fire Extinguisher Training
The Moon Township Volunteer Fire Company offers fire extinguisher training to small groups and organizations. Sessions include a brief lecture and hands-on training teaching each participant how to evaluate whether or not to fight a fire with an extinguisher and how to operate a portable fire extinguisher safely and effectively. Contact MTVFC Chief, John Scott, at 412-262-1700 ext. 435 for more information and to schedule a training session. Fire extinguisher training is free; however, donations to the MTVFC are greatly appreciated.

US Army 28th 'Keystone' Division Concert Band

With a history of service that predates the American Revolution, the 28th "Keystone" Division Band, based in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, is among the top performing Army National Guard Bands in the nation today. The 40 member concert band will perform music from contemporary to classical, rousing Sousa Marches and beautiful ballads.

Installments: First installment due by August 31, 2013
Remaining installments are due by the last day of September, October, and final in November.
Please remember if the billing address has changed such as a new mortgage company, no longer escrow, etc., property owners must notify my office and Allegheny County treasurer, John Weinstein, at 412-350-4100. Do not rely on the banks or closing companies to notify the Property Tax Office.

Home Alone Monitoring
|
Never feel alone with the Moon Township Police Home Alone Monitoring. This system automatically telephones a resident once or twice a day depending on their needs. The resident in need will receive this message, "This is the Moon Township Police Department. If you are okay, press 1; if you are not okay, press 2." If the resident presses number 2 or fails to press any number, an emergency contact will be called.
