 What We're Up To:

Symantec Award

January 7, 2013

As part of our ongoing partnership, Symantec employees from the Northern Virginia office took part in our Internet Safety 101® cyber security training in October 2012 led by EIE President Donna Rice Hughes. Using the 101 train-the-trainer program, Herndon employees learned how to use the Internet Safety 101® Plug 'N Play DVD Series, Workbook, and other resources on how to keep kids safe while using the Internet. The curriculum and teaching series help parents understand the dangers children could encounter online, and provide steps parents can take to safeguard their children. The same approach was used in the Salt Lake City, Utah office.

As part of Symantec Corporation's 2012 Corporate Responsibility Report feedback process, survey respondents chose Enough Is Enough among three online safety non-profits to receive a $50,000 corporate donation. We are so grateful to Symantec Corporation for continuing their partnership with us in such a big way!

Snapchat 'disappearing' videos don't

actually vanish

December 2012

Snapchat is a messaging app for iPhone and Android devices that self-destructs photos and videos after they're sent. When sending an image or video, users pick a timeframe of up to 10 seconds for the viewer to have access after he/she opens it. When the allotted timeframe expires the photo or video vanishes. Or does it? CNNMoney reports that there is a way to open up the mobile device cache and copy photos or videos onto a computer. As we say, technology is neither good nor bad; it's neutral. If technology is abused, it can present a problem. Take a look at our mobile devices information and make sure you're  informed so you can ensure your kids enjoy a safe and rewarding online experience via their mobile devices.

Hundreds Arrested in Internet Child

Pornography Sting

EIE President Donna Rice Hughes on CitizenLink

January 9, 2013

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents continue to make arrests in "Operation Sunflower," a five-week international ICE sting to rescue victims of child pornography. The unit has identified and rescued 110 child victims in the U.S., and 13 outside the country. Forty-six of the victims were younger than 12; five of them were younger than three.

"We always applaud law enforcement when they take down a group like this," said Donna Rice Hughes, president of Enough Is Enough, a nonprofit organization in Virginia dedicated to preventing Internet-initiated crimes against children. "All of these stings are important - they add up and send a loud and clear message to pedophiles and child molesters that this won't be tolerated."

Cases Like Missing PA Teen are

100% Preventable

EIE President Donna Rice Hughes on WUSA9 December 5, 2012

"Thirteen-year-old Savanna Marie MacMullet gave her parents the scare of their lives. She'd been missing since Monday afternoon when she met up with a 20-year-old man that she allegedly met on Facebook, Ashley Ryan Hareford from Virginia.

They were finally found Tuesday night at Union Station. Police had gotten a tip that the two had boarded a bus in Philadelphia, and  when they got to Union Station, the U.S. Marshall's were waiting for them.

When Donna Rice Hughes, of www.InternetSafety101.org, hears about stories like this, the first thing she thinks is, "This is 100% preventable."
