ISNA Mentioned in Huffington Post
The Presidential election campaigns in the U.S. have begun. Major candidates like former secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senator Ted Cruz from Texas have thrown their hats into the fray. Once again we confront the challenge, what role can American Muslims play in American politics... READ MORE |
ISNA Mentioned in Altmuslimah
I am greeted with an exuberant "Salaams" from Jameel Syed, a Detroit-based marketing executive and muaddhin (the person designated in a masjid to recite the call to prayer). He and his campaign manager, Yahya Sultan, are traveling across the United States visiting 50 mosques in 50 states so Jameel can make the call to prayer (or adhan) in each one. Want to help with ISNA's History Gallery Project?
This year, the History Gallery will again be on display at the 52nd ISNA Annual Convention over the Labor Day weekend in Chicago. There will be photographs and documents related to the people and events depicting how ISNA and its predecessor MSA grew from a tiny seed into a flourishing tree. Your help is important.
Why bother, you ask? Because, knowing our past adds depth and meaning to our present and future. We can better understand where we are going if we know where we are coming from. Or to just enjoy knowing what happened way back then.
If you are an 'old timer', please look into your filing cabinet, storage or attic to find and send us photos and documents from the 1960s through the 1990s. If you are a younger person, please check with, or look into, your elders' memory boxes to find photos and documents from that era. Artifacts, too, can be helpful.
Please send the material - or at least excellent copies of it - to the ISNA History Gallery Project at Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), 6555 S. County Rd. 750 E., Plainfield, IN 46168 (317.839.8157) ATTN: Sr. Habibe Ali.
Because the material you might have or find is valuable, we will advise you to first write to Sr. Nudrat Unus at nudratunus@gmail.com to discuss what material should be sent and how to do it securely.
Thank you. You will not regret the effort you make towards filling in the contours of our organizational history. And, those who come after you will thank you.
