MEET AN ISNA SPEAKER:
Assad R Akhtar
Assad R. Akhtar is currently the deputy chief of staff for Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-NJ). In this capacity, he is responsible for managing the local district offices and staff for the 9th Congressional District of New Jersey. Before this assignment, Assad served as the legislative director in the Washington, DC, office where he oversaw the congressman's legislative agenda and staff. He was also tasked with coordinating the congressman's position on the House Ways & Means Committee as well as staffing his assignment on the House Homeland Security Committee. Assad started as staffer on Capitol Hill in 2003 and previously worked for Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) where he helped create the Congressional Pakistan Caucus and was the lead staffer for the House Science Committee.
He has also spent a substantive amount of time working on political campaigns throughout America. He helped support both Reps. Keith Ellison (D-MN) and Andre Carson (D-IN) as they became the first and second Muslim members of Congress in 2006 and 2008, respectively. Apart from his official legislative duties, Assad is a cofounder and past president of the Congressional Muslim Staff Association (CMSA).

ISNA organizes the 1st Annual Masjid Development Forum
November 11, 2013-More than 70 national leaders and speakers came together to participate at the 1st Annual ISNA Masjid Forum in Plainfield, Indiana. The forum was held from November 8 - 10, 2013. At this conference the board members, mosque leaders, and Imams presented papers and discussed various topics on Masjid Development in areas of Governance, Women leadership, Youth Leadership, and more.
