New Look for Newsletter and Website As ISSP Readies for

Sustainability Professional Certification Launch

Welcome to the July edition of the ISSP monthly newsletter! We've redesigned the newsletter to complement the recently updated format of the
ISSP Website. We hope you enjoy the updates and find it enjoyable and easier to use, and we welcome your feedback and input.

We are most excited to announce that we will begin taking registrations for beta testing of the Sustainability Associate Certification Program next week! Thank you to everyone who has been involved in the development of this certification which has been designed by Sustainability Professionals, for Sustainability Professionals. The ISSP certification will be a recognition of achievement and competency for both young and experienced professionals that goes beyond the completion of coursework to require ongoing maintenance similar to other professional certifications. Learn more by visiting our Certification page.

Together with other members of ISSP's newly installed 2015-2016 Leadership Team, I look forward to working with all of you to accelerate the adoption of sustainability as standard practice around the globe!

-Marilyn Johnson, ISSP President

Featured Webinar:
Sustainability Policy - Hastening the Transition to a Cleaner Economy
Join us live on Thursday, July 16th at 11:00am PT / 2:00pm ET

One of the most effective ways to hasten our transition to a cleaner, more sustainable economy is through public policy - at the federal, state, and local levels. Water, energy, material use, and waste management are all shaped by policy and political discourse.

Led by Dr. Steven Cohen, Executive Director of Columbia University's Earth Institute, ISSP's July 16th webinar will provide an introduction on how to navigate the public sector's complex and critical role in the sustainability movement, including the importance of local action and standardized monitoring and measurement. Join us live for a unique opportunity to explore the mechanisms through which public policy directly affects the free market economy. And, rather than focusing on the government's role in traditional views of conservation and environmentalism, the workshop will reveal new and creative measures in the future of sustainability policy.

Policy Updates from the American Sustainable Business Council

I
SSP is proud to continue our partnership with the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC). ASBC's mission is to educate and inform the public and policymakers about the benefits of a more sustainable economy, as well as policies and practices that can help the economy become more sustainable.

Follow the link for ASBC's updates and policy action calls on federal-level legislation and regulations:

The EPA's final Clean Water Rule affirms protection for headwaters and other important water sources. Unfortunately, some in Congress are trying to block the rule's implementation.  Business people can help by adding their voices to the clean water business campaign.

It's a challenge for businesses to be confident about whether the products they sell contain toxic chemicals. At the same time, current regulations make it hard to bring safer chemicals and products to market. Sign on with Companies for Safer Chemicals to push Congress for meaningful reform of U.S. toxic chemicals law.
