In 2012, Kenilworth resident and Sears School PTA Environmental Representative, Katie Nahrwold, organized a meeting for parents in neighboring schools to meet and talk about ways to be better stewards of our environment and ways to incorporate new initiatives into their childrens' schools. That informal meeting has become known as the Area School Environmental Awareness Group (ASEAG) and meets several times during the school year. The mission of the ASEAG is to raise environmental awareness and to inspire parents, teachers, students, and community members to take action to help the environment in our local schools.
The meetings are open to parents and educators from any community and held at different schools. Discussions focus on environmental efforts - ones that are sure-fire successes and ones that need some input, as well as issues in our schools. The ASEAG is a wonderful opportunity to network and collaborate with like-minded individuals, share ideas and provide a network of support for one another.
The next meeting will be held from 9 - 11 am on Wednesday, October 16th at St. Paul of the Cross School, 140 S Northwest Highway in Park Ridge. For more information, please visit areaschoolenvironmentalgroup.wordpress.com.
