Reduce Your Wasteline
SWANCC Offers TWO Grant Programs

The mission of the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County's (SWANCC) Grant Programs are to provide guidance and resources that assist schools with understanding their waste streams so that reduce, reuse and recycling measures can be implemented, which will result in sending less waste to the landfill, as well as to educate teachers, staff and students about being better stewards of our environment.

Eligibility

To qualify to receive a SWANCC Waste Reduction Grant, a K-12 school must be located in a SWANCC-member community; or 50% of the student population must live in one or a combination of communities found in the right hand bar.

1) Original Waste Reduction Grant for $200

Since 1992, SWANCC has provided its Waste Reduction Grant Program to over seven hundred elementary, middle and high schools, collectively. Once again, qualifying schools can receive up to $200 to purchase equipment, materials or educational resources that promote reduce, reuse or recycle.   Grant awards are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Applications must be submitted to SWANCC no later than October 31, 2013.

2) New - Larger Scope Grant for $2,500

As a new initiative, SWANCC is offering up to $2,500 to two schools that want to achieve a greater waste diversion by expanding an existing project or program - or starting a program from scratch.  The new Larger Scope Grant Program has terms and conditions that a school administrator or principal must agree to prior to submitting an application that include: establishing a Green Team; conducting two waste audits; establishing school-wide reduce and reuse activities and a recycling program; have SWANCC provide support and training; and submitting a report to SWANCC at the end of the school year.

Applications must be submitted no later than October 25, 2013, to include a detailed description of projects that will be implemented with SWANCC's $2,500 grant funds.  All applications will be reviewed by SWANCC staff and several Agency Recycling Coordinators.  Points will be allocated for merit potential - plus bonus points given for extra measures and related projects.
