The NEED Project Sheds New Light National Energy Education Development
The National Energy Education Development (NEED) is a nonprofit education association that provides professional development, innovative materials correlated to the National Science Education Content Standards, ongoing support and recognition to educators nationwide. Of all the things we use that require energy, few are as easy to control as the way we light our homes and schools.
In the December 2012/January2013 issue of its Energy Exchange newsletter, two activities are provided. One is for primary and elementary students to compare Holiday lights and the second is for intermediate and secondary students on how to make an incandescent light bulb. These activities are designed to get students thinking about how we light our interior spaces, as well as understanding the economic impact of making energy efficient. For activity details, go to NEED.org.
Youth Awards - each year, NEED recognizes individuals for their leadership in energy conservation projects, activities and outreach. Applications must be submitted by April 15, 2013. For more information, visit need.org/Youth-Awards.
Holiday Lights Can Be Recycled
Do you have burned-out holiday lights? Don't throw them away - recycle them at your community's drop-off location. For details, visit swancc.org.
