This Weekend is
Second Saturday at WAAAM:
***
"Fish'n with Phil & Dave"
The Luhr Jensen Story and Their Auto Collection Displayed at WAAAM

It all started in Hood River in the 30'...

Luhr Jensen history is the feature of the June 13 Second Saturday at WAAAM. Brothers Phil and Dave Jensen who were integral to the company will give audiences an insider view of just how Hood River came to be known as a fishing lure icon for decades. The Luhr Jensen history talks - the first at 11:30am and the second at 2:00pm.

"We don't usually call attention to our fishing artifacts but they are still an important part of transportation history," says Museum Director Judy Newman. "How else would you get to the ultimate fishing spot unless you drive there or better yet use a float plane to land on the lake or river itself! Our fishing collection mostly comes from Phil and Dave so we thought it was high time to invite the community for a celebration of our local history."

From the Airplane Side of Restorations

On Friday June 5 WAAAM's 1938 Rearwin Speedster
saw the the sun for the first time in years, as we rolled it out of the shop to check the freshly painted cowling for color before applying the trim to the nose and wheel pants.  In the next month or so our dedicated aircraft restoration volunteers will be finalizing the engine controls, mounting the wings and tail, installing the Upholstery with seats freshly redone by Oregon Aero, and finalizing all those fine details that make a great restoration.

New Pants too!
Wheel Pants that is!
Volunteer Dale Young works on them in the paint room

We are also making progress on our side project, WAAAM's  Piper TG8 army training  gilder with the finalization  of the fresh fabric and paint on the wings.

Hope to see you all this second Saturday, June 13th for our  restoration shop tours at 10:30am and 1:00pm.

See you at the museum,

Jay

It's a Busy Place

Donations! Three familiar faces have joined the WAAAM Collection - permanently!. The 1939 Porterfield CP50 was donated by Charles Rushford and the 1938 Stinson SR-8B Gullwing was donated by Don Culver. Both were previously on loan with the museum and we are proud to add them to the permanent collection.
We will be raising money to have the engine of the Gullwing reconditioned. It is hydraulic locked so we are going to have to pull the engine to see where the problem lies.We plan to send the engine out for repairs. The expected repair cost is $8K-$30K
The high MPG "Freeway" That was out and about during the May Second Saturday has been donated by Skip Dunn of New Mexico and we are excited to have this automobile be a part of our permanent collection.

We also received another gift on the sly.
A "Drop and Run" donation!
You know how things just tend to move and show up at WAAAM? Well a 1960s Tule Trooper "Big Boy" appeared out of nowhere mid-May.

The cool thing about this type of little mini bike/motorcycle is that it has a bit of a cult following because it was used in a movie-"Muscle Beach Party"!

Our brand new L-6 that was also recently donated in May and hauled in a trailer to the museum was flown too! It was rather funny because everyone wanted to get it up and going and when it came time to fly all of our pilots were busy. So Terry (Museum Founder) jumped in and took off. Of course that means that we got next to no documentation of the flight save for the video Judy took from the ground. We'll be flying it much more and taking some flying photos in the near future so look for those.  There is a Video on Facebook.

WAAAM is again the proud recipient of the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor! This is the third year in a row that we have know we got the award and it is all thanks to our visitors who reviewed and shared their experience that they had at the museum.
