"Every April we like to feature a different kind of auto to show off how they've changed throughout history - this year it is Dodge Brothers," says Museum Director Judy Newman. "Last year's Chevy Day was unable to top the nearly 40 Studebakers that came in 2013. It will be interesting to see how many folks who own a Dodge Brother (Dodge) come by and participate!"

WAAAM will have its 1916 Dodge Brothers Roadster out to take part in the retrospective of Dodge Brothers vehicles.

The restoration shop will also be open for a tour at 1:00PM and some airplanes from the museum's collection will be out getting some exercise too.

A little Dodge Brothers history:

These two boys made bicycles too! Hummm, there seems to be a big connection with Bikes, Cars and Planes!

John F. &Horace E. Dodge, ["The Dodge Brothers"], moved to Detroit at the turn of the century, briefly produced transmissions for Ransom E. Olds, and beginning in 1903, became the major suppliers of drive trains to the Ford Motor Company. They built the first Dodge in November 1914 and the new car was an instant success. When the Dodge brothers died in 1920, they employed 22,000 workers and produced 140,000 automobiles per year. Dodge Brothers Company remained an independent firm until 1928, when it became a major division of the fledgling Chrysler Corporation.  Learn more : dodgemotorcar.com

After almost two weeks of hammering, English Wheel rolling, (see one in action here)  and more hammering the wheel pants for the Rearwin Speedster are ready for welding on Tuesday April 7th or Thursday the 9th depending on equipment availability  and labor proficiency.   In addition to the progress being made in the restoration shop, WAAAM received a large donation of aircraft hardware, tools and components from Hood River local Don Decker.

What is this class all about... Here is a quick look for folks who want to know more than the info posted on our website the class runs from 9am to about 3pm - the morning half of the class gets you up to speed on some of the history of the Model T...a why they did what they did and how it impacted us and the car kind of talk, then there is a bit of hands on with the internal works of the car...where things are/a practical how-to. After that we push the cars out, make sure everything is ready to go, and take a break for lunch which is included in the final price. Then we spend the whole afternoon (from about 12 or 12:30 onward) out driving the vehicles - first with an instructor and then on your own.

Steam Tractor
The Steam Team is at it again - they've been working hard to get the decades of gunk buildup off of the tractor to get ready for paint.

As Larry McCollum just told me, "Paint is the easy part, it's the prep that get's you." Still, they've been working really hard. Jack Sheppard's wife Jane, saved the day with cleaning the steam tractor ... she found some crazy miracle industrial stove cleaner that has the tractor looking super sharp. Now it only takes the normal amount of elbow grease to get the rig cleaned instead of the monumental man hours.

 Plus

We've had a substantial (and ongoing) donation of books and literature from the estate of the late WAAAM volunteer Rudy Zvarich. One extraordinary piece is a copy of the April 1911 issue of Aircraft Magazine with a Maurice Farman Biplane on the cover.  Sustenance for the research library. Our thanks to Rudy's family.

The new access roll-up door and man door for the workshop end of H3 is making life easier here

There have been a number of airport committee meetings held at WAAAM.

Our (Hood River) "Sister City" representatives of Tsuruta stopped by WAAAM - Where we met  their new mayor (you may recall the previous mayor had been mayor for a really, really long time and he just retired). It was great to host both our mayor and their mayor for a bit and spread the love of WAAAM.
