Fabulous February
Second Saturday at it's Best

WAAAM Presents :

"M3 Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting" and "Making Stuff"

Volunteers Doug and Leslie prepare for the Making Stuff classes that will be offered at WAAAM during our February and March Second Saturdays

WAAAM has been selected as an official

MAKING STUFF outreach site!

NOVA is collaborating with 75 sites nationally to provide the material and media to "make stuff" colder, wilder, safer and faster through a series of projects that include hands-on activities and design challenges based on the four themes from MAKING STUFF.

As an outreach site, the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum will offer the MAKING STUFF programming in our upcoming February 8 and March 8 "Second Saturday" events at the museum.

Join us for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of WAAAM's new expansion on February 8 at 1:00pm. In addition, WAAAM will host activities that correspond with the first two episodes of MAKING STUFF - MAKING STUFF Wilder and MAKING STUFF Colder. These activities are included with paid museum admission and will occur at 11:00am and 1:30pm. Bring your kids or those that are young at heart and join WAAAM Museum Volunteer Doug Davee in "making stuff."

NOVA's groundbreaking series MAKING STUFF, hosted by technology expert David Pogue, focuses on the personal qualities that underlie the process of invention - the visionary talent, sheer luck and dogged determination that turn a wild idea into a cutting-edge material. Now in its 40th season, NOVA is the most-watched prime time science series on American television, reaching an average of five million viewers weekly. NOVA airs Wednesdays at 9:00pm on most PBS stations.

One More for the Road -
1948 DeSoto

This is a must see... 1948 DeSoto with only 38K miles! That pretty much averaged just under 600 miles a year. Not a daily driver.

Many thanks to Roscoe Nelson who made the newest of the WAAAM Automobiles possible. This is the second car Mr Nelson donated. The other one? 1913 REO ,The Fifth.

Learn a bit more: Read about DeSoto  A car of the Chrysler linage.
These are wonderful gifts to the museum that keep on giving.... to all of us.

We love the stories of these operating treasures.
Keep them coming our way.
The Steam Team!
Get involved with our Steam Team!

Jack Sheppard (left)  Donn Alexander and Joe Brenieser (right)  just some of WAAAMs dedicated volunteers restoring the Steam Tractor. Jack holds a tool he made to get one specific job accomplished!

Yes we have room for more volunteer help.
Requirements? You don't mind getting dirty, you hold a museum membership, and you have a little time.  Give us a call join in the fun. This is a once in a life time opportunity. (How often does one get to restore a steam tractor?)

They come in Threes--
Planes new to WAAAM

1975 Grumman American AA-5 donated to WAAAM
by Evelyn and John Lorence. Thanks to Volunteer Lee Borchers and our friends from the Independence Airpark for flying this pretty here and taking the pilot back home.

Piper Cherokee 160 donated to WAAAM by
Dick and Joan Johnson. The Cherokee is a great aircraft. You will see them flying daily at your local airport. The Johnson's flew their plane here and  Volunteer Mark Stanfield flew them back home.

1939 Porterfield CP-50
The Skinny Bird as you can see! Only 22.5" wide in the cockpit!
On loan from Ben Rushford. Flown to WAAAM by Bob Stark of Twin Oaks Airpark. Bob also had a friend fly up in his Cessna 185 to take him back home. A Porterfield Website Link

It takes a lot of people and much effort to move planes and cars around. Thank you for helping.

"It Flies Just Like a Swallow."

Starting on Saturday January 11th, museum volunteers Dale Young, Doug Davee,  Bob Madsen, Mark Johnson, an I started working on WAAAMs next bi plane restoration project, a 1928 OX5 powered Swallow that was donated last year by Dick Pingrey?

As of February 1st the wings were covered, stitched, and taped, and the new control cables had been spliced by Mark Baxter aka Bucky the cable guy.  As can be seen in the pictures the fuselage and tail was finished when it was donated so this project will entail  covering, painting, and installing the wings, overhauling and installing the engine and engine cowl, and rigging.

Stay tuned for progress on this unique piece on history.
