 1922 Velie.
(pronounced VEE-LEE)
A New Car - project.
Visitors to WAAAM know about Velie...Veile Airplanes that is.
Did you know that Velie made automobiles too? This family company produced American made saddles, buggies, cars, planes and more during the Golden Age. How many transportation companies made that kind of transition? I don't yet know but am excited to keep learning!
The Velie Manufacturer is the 50th different car maker represented in the museum so far.
For the Official Velie Motor Car Register,
The acquisition of this rare auto was made possible by donors like you...Believing in WAAAM and helping us motor on.

In the Sky Again

On October 19th we crossed our fingers and started up our newest of the new-to-WAAAM airplanes to see if we could return it to the skies. This aircraft had been a hanging display in the Port Townsed Aero Museum for the last six years. Just a month ago it was added to the WAAAM Collection making our current airplane count 101!
Visitors on this Saturday got a special treat as they watched the process of preparing an old aircraft for flight. The 1928 Travel Air 4000 airplane has a J4 Wright engine built up by Pacific Northwest icon, Jack Lanning. We believe this to be the only J4 currently flying. After the annual inspection and the moving of four additional aircraft out the hangar doors, the crew proceeded with the start up process on the back lawn. The Travel Air started on the first pull! On the Second start of the engine Ben Davidson (Volunteer Chief Pilot) taxied out for the first flight. Davidson says "She handles good."
When you lay eyes on this old bird, look for differences: The engine looks old. It's cylinders are a single casting of iron. The ailerons look like elephant ears.
We offer a special thanks to Lanning's brother, Dan Lanning, for allowing WAAAM to acquire this airplane and to ensure that Jack's legacy lives on.
Have you seen this wood propeller?
This photo is of Jack Lanning in the 1970s standing in front of his Travel Air 4000 - (the new airplane at WAAAM)
While it still flys beautifully with the metal propeller we'd love to to find the original wood propeller for this aircraft.
Share this photo and ask your friends. It's somewhere in the Pacific Northwest - we just need to find it!

Are you interested in giving time or money to get this iconic Gorge Steam Tractor operating again? We are accepting volunteers to work with us on this project. Requirements? Be an active Member of the WAAAM Museum, be at least 18 yrs old, (you will be working in the shop), fill out our volunteer application & waiver and be willing to get dirty!

Congratulations to our "Pusher Crew" on their next big accomplishment ....
The Airworthiness Certificate!
On Oct. 31st a designated representative of the FAA issued this much anticipated little piece of paper. He was very impressed and took pictures to show his friends!
We need this document to fly plane. When will that be? Well...it will depend on the weather, more testing, the volunteers have to fit it into their other than WAAAM life and the stars need to be aligned just right.
We will keep you posted.

The Electric Plane by Alternair
The Amp is a two-seat electric Special Light-Sport Aircraft (SLSA). The design is for a super quiet, comfortable, safe, efficient and green aircraft. We are making this possible by combining the new battery technology with the latest aircraft innovations. The AMP-100 can fly over 200 miles on one charge, and can cruise at speeds over 100 mph. Because it is electric, it is far more reliable, dependable, efficient, quiet, and above all - GREEN!
