SECOND SATURDAY

JULY 13th

Traffic Jam 2013

Get you favorite old car out of the shed. Show it off.  Tell your story. Join us

at the WAAAM  Air and Auto museum for our second annual cruise and car show this month.

Register your vintage beauty and join us as we cruise the gut in Hood River on Friday night. Then back to the museum we will go to watch the sun set on the mountain as we listen to some oldies and wait for it to get dark enough to watch our movie on the museum wall.  Drive-in style!

You don't have and old ride?

That's OK with us. The Car Show is the 13th. Come spend the day and see what has ventured out of the garage, down the Gorge and out of the hills. These are some beautiful restorations and some "can't believe it's all original" autos.

Start your Saturday off at WAAAM with a delicious and hearty Lions Breakfast. The Museum and Breakfast start at 8am.

Food, Fun and a Fabulous Museum!

An additional 27,000 Square Feet of Display Space construction has begun

The Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum in Hood River, Oregon announces that construction is underway on an expansion of its display buildings. The additional space will serve mainly for automobile related displays and an enlarged WAAAM SMART Kids Zone.

The museum, established in 2006 and opened to the public in 2007, has shown strong growth in its six years of operation. The WAAAM collection now comprises more than 120 cars and 30 motorcycles plus military vehicles and tractors and it will soon reach 100 airplanes. With few exceptions, these objects are operable and many are demonstrated in action on the Second Saturday of each month.

Design Structures has been selected for the construction project. Opening of the new space is planned for November 2013.

Arriving this Weekend
A 1932 Waco UBA airplane has been acquired with funds donated for this aircraft.  Museum Chief Pilot Ben Davidson and Assistant Director Donna Davidson have volunteered to picked up the airplane in Kalamazoo, Michigan and fly it
a
1932 WACO UBA
1932 WACO UBA
cross the country to its new home in Hood River.

The Waco UBA is unusual in Waco's line in that its single cockpit has side-by-side seating of its pilot and passenger instead of the more common arrangement of separate cockpits, fore and aft. The UBA, with a 210 HP Continental 7-cylinder radial engine, was the top of line model in Waco's "A" series and at $4,895 was quite costly for 1932. As a result only six were sold, mostly to high profile corporations.  Just three of this airplane remain in FAA records and WAAAM is proud to be flying the only one west of the Mississippi River.

Donna says,
"Follow our travels on the WAAAM Facebook page as we barnstorm across the 1700+ miles of fabulous America."

An open cockpit biplane and and two childhood sweethearts!  The Davidson's will celebrate their 29th anniversary on this cross country adventure.

These Kids have what it takes WAAAM CAMP 2013

WAAAM Camp 2013

                  Introduction to
                Aviation for Kids.

Nine young aviation enthusiast spent three hours a day for four days last week learning about the world of aviation. Flight and aerodynamics, ailerons, rudders, elevators. phonetic alphabet, aircraft radio procedures and radio checks. Yes, they know how to rib stitch like the museum restoration volunteers have been doing.

Experience WAAAM CAMP 2013

These student built their own balsa glider. It flew because they shaped the airfoil!

Each of these interested students experienced sitting at the controls of a historic aircraft, and had the opportunity to talk with the dare devil pilot Tom Murphy who flew the Pusher off a hotel roof in 1995.

Riding in a 1914 Model T Depot Hack rounded out their experience during WAAAM camp.

Many thanks to volunteers Don Naylor,  Tex Newman, Russ Paddock, Andy Anderson and Dave Schneeberg for your help.

The Parker Pusher is a Movie Star...

Million Dollar Mermaid (1952)  {Esther Williams}

along with Ester Williams and  Victor Mature.

The Parker Pusher was used in the movie Million Dollar Mermaid. The whole movie is on You Tube, dubbed in Russian on top of being dubbed in French. Turn down the sound and jump to 1:13:25 - 1:14:13 and then to 1:20:45 - 1:24:15. There's a pretty good look at the seat around 1:21:50.
