State of Michigan Legislative Update



MAB Attends Drone Bill Signing


The MAB were a guest of Governor Snyder on February 14 as he signed Senate Bill 992 into law. This legislation allows a person that authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to operate unmanned aerial systems (aka drones) for commercial purposes in a manner consistent with the authorization.  Read more here...

Forward Auction Finishes At $19.6 Billion



The FCC announced last week that the forward auction has ended with $19.6 billion raised. Of this total, broadcasters will receive about $10 billion, with $1.75 billion going to broadcasters that incur costs in repacking and moving to a difference channel in the post-auction spectrum channel reassignment. More than $6 billion will go to the U.S. Treasury for deficit reduction. Read more here...

In conjunction with Michigan's Severe Weather Awareness Week, April 16-22, broadcasters and emergency management partners statewide are encouraging to participate in a statewide tornado drill at 1:00 p.m. ET on Thursday, April 19.  Read more here...

WNWN Raises $65k for St. Jude's


On February 2-3, Midwest Communication's WNWN-FM (Win98.5 Battle Creek) raised $65,110 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during the station's annual Radiothon.  Read more here...

Last week, Midwest Family Broadcasting's WYTZ-FM (975YCountry Benton Harbor) raised $32,500 in its annual Country Cares Radiothon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  Read more here...





WIOG Raises Over $50k for Children's Miracle Network



On February 9 and 10, Cumulus Media's WIOG-FM (Saginaw) held The WIOG Cares for Kids Radiothon, live from Hurley Children's Hospital in Flint from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.  All in all, $56,756 was raised during the 2-day event.  Read more here...
