GOVERNOR RICK SNYDER'S 2017 STATE OF THE STATE ADDRESS: JANUARY 17, 2017
On Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., Governor Rick Snyder will deliver his annual State of the State address to Michigan citizens. In response to a survey of our members, the MAB will provide live feeds for both commercial TV and radio to use.

State of Michigan Legislative Update

MAB Brings 2017 SOS to Members

The MAB would like to thank all of our members airing Governor Rick Snyder's 2017 State of the State Address. MAB will be on-hand uplinking the Governor's speech and the Democratic response to both commercial and public television members in the state. The clean, unhosted feed will be in HD. Public television stations will be supplied a 90-minute hosted program, anchored by Tim Skubick.  Read more here...


Michigan Attorney Wants U.S. Supreme Court Hearing On Court Recordings

According to a report in MIRS, John Bursch, an attorney from Michigan, requested the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a case that recording courtroom proceeding should be protected by the First Amendment.  Read more here...
Federal/Congressional Update

FCC Meeting May lead to Elimination of Public Inspection File Requirement

According to the Broadcast Law Blog, the FCC released a tentative agenda for the agency's open meeting scheduled for January 31. This will be the first meeting without Chairman Wheeler, who is set to step down on January 20. The only item on the Republican-controlled FCC meeting agenda is the elimination of the requirement that broadcasters maintain a paper public file, open for public inspection, containing letters and emails from the public about station operations. Read more here...

Kim Krause Named GM of WXMI-TV

Tribune Broadcasting
has announced the appointment of Kim Krause to General Manager of WXMI-TV (Grand Rapids).  Krause will oversee the long-term strategy and day-to-day management of the station, and will report to Chris Wayland, Tribune Broadcasting's Vice President/Group Operations.

FCC Approves Nexstar Acquisition of Media General

Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) announced January 11 that the FCC has granted the applications and related waiver requests seeking consent to transfer control of licenses held by subsidiaries of Media General, Inc. (NYSE: MEG) ("Media General") from the shareholders of Media General to Nexstar.  Read more here...


Cumulus Media Promotes Two in Flint

Cumulus Media (Flint) has announced the promotions of two programmers, August Wallace, who has been programming WDZZ-FM for ten years, has been elevated to Operations Manager for the five-station cluster.  Read more here...


WPZR Appoints Randi Myles Program Director

Gospel-formatted WPZR-FM (Detroit) has promoted veteran air personality Randi Myles to Program Director.  Myles, who will continue to host her afternoon drive program was previously Assistant Program Director of the station.  Read more here...


Guy Gordon Joins WJR

Longtime Detroit television reporter Guy Gordon has joined WJR-AM (Detroit) as a talk show host.  Read more here...


Ross Jones to Return to WXYZ-TV

E. W. Scripps Washington Bureau reporter Ross Jones has announced that he will be returning to WXYZ-TV (Detroit) beginning February 1.  Read more here...

Dareese Graham is Traffic Director for iHeart Media's WJLB-FM and WMXD-FM in Detroit.

Dareese has been in traffic for nearly 13 years.

Q:  Which Superhero would you be, and why?
Dareese:  I would be "Wonder Woman" because I wear a lot of different belts and play a lot of different roles. I'm a great wife, I'm a one-of-a-kind step-mom and a loving sister and not to mention the best AUNTIE in the world.
