Appeal for Prayers and Support
Beloved in Christ,

Bishop Palmer

During the month of May, unrelenting rain fell across Texas and Oklahoma resulting in a major disaster declaration by President Obama. Twenty-four people are confirmed dead and thousands  of homes are damaged or destroyed across the region. The United Methodist Church has responded through relief efforts and is already thinking about long term recovery needs across a vast geographic area. We invite you to consider how you and your congregation can respond. Click here for some suggested ways you can help.

Thanks for your prayers and any other support you feel called to

provide. In His name,

Do Something in Mexico!

As we look around at what is going on in our world, we often cry out to God and say, "Why don't you do something?" God then says, "I did, I created you!" Obviously, I'm paraphrasing the song "Do Something," by Mathew West. This was the theme song of the May Volunteers in Mission (VIM) Medical Mission Team this year. The questionable violence that we had been hearing about in Mexico was trying to hold back the work of our God. The May team ignored the dangers that were placed in front of them and said I am willing to do something. The team consisted of 17 men and women of different backgrounds including 3 nurse practitioners, 1 pharmacist, 8 nurses, 1 pastor, 3 helpers, and 1 EMT. Read the story from Chad Stoltz

Horizon Requests State Dollars to Keep Programs Running

Bishop C. Joseph Sprague and Horizon Prison Initiative graduate Jimmy Cheadle testified before the Ohio Senate Finance Committee on Thursday, May 21, in support of an amendment to the proposed state budget. The amendment would provide the Horizon program with $250,000 annually in state funds, allowing for expansion of the program to the Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW) in Marysville, and permitting it to continue at three men's prison facilities - Marion, London, and Chillicothe. Without state funding, Horizon will no longer be able to provide programming at all three of these facilities. In his testimony, Bishop Sprague laid out the case for how the Horizon program saves the State of Ohio much more money than it would cost to fund it. Read more

One-Day Adventure!

Spend a day with us to see what camp is really like. If you've never been to camp before and are curious to see what it's all about, our One-Day Adventure is the perfect way to get a glimpse of what happens during a week at camp. You'll get a special tour of the grounds, enjoy a great lunch, and have lots of fun with summer activities like archery, canoeing, and swimming. We'll also join together in worship, and introduce our theme fo0r the summer. After hanging with us for one day, we hope we will see you again for one of our week-long camps. This is a great one-day event to bring a friend that has never been to camp, or for children's leaders to bring a group from church. There's something special for parents too. One-Day Adventure is Available at all Three West Ohio Camps!

Plan Calls for Global Funding of General Church

For the first time, United Methodist churches around the world would have a set formula to financially support the denomination's global ministries, under a plan going before the 2016 General Conference. The board of the denomination's finance agency on May 20 approved a proposal for apportionment giving from the central conferences - the seven church regions in Africa, Europe and the Philippines. Apportionments are the share each annual conference or local church pays to support international, national and regional missions. There are 76 annual conferences within the central conferences. United Methodist leaders around the globe consider the formula a crucial part of living into denomination's global nature. The church continues to grow worldwide, especially in Africa. More than 40 percent of the 12.8 million United Methodists now live outside the United States, and consequently, more than 40 percent of General Conference delegates come from the central conferences.
