Urban Encourager program breaks ground

Jimmy Cheadle, a graduate of the Horizon Prison Initiative, is the West Ohio Conference's first Urban Encourager - a program that connects former prisoners with a local church, allowing the two to learn from each other. In his first three months at United Methodist Church for All People (C4AP), Cheadle has focused on establishing relationships with staff and the community and exploring options for components of C4AP's re-entry program. Summer interns placed

We are excited to announce that our 2015 West Ohio summer interns have been placed and have begun serving at their ministry locations alongside their mentors. Please be in prayer for them this summer! If you have questions about the program, or know someone who might be interested in an internship for next summer, email Dominic Mejia, West Ohio Conference Internship Coordinator. Imagine No Malaria + Columbus Zoo = A celebration of children helping children

From Vacation Bible Schools to car washes to sacrificial giving, the children and youth of our conference have made a tremendous difference in our Imagine No Malaria campaign. To say thanks and honor the generosity of our youngest United Methodists, we've scheduled a day at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in August. Admission, parking, animal demonstrations, buffet lunch, zoo cash, caricature artists, face painters and handimals are all included. Registration and details

Powell mission team: A future with hope

Early this spring members of Powell United Methodist Church made a third trip to New Jersey to serve with A Future With Hope, helping to rebuild homes and lives still suffering from the devastation of Super Storm Sandy in 2012. Teams from Powell, made up of skilled and unskilled members, have dry walled, built a stairway to a raised house, tiled a bathroom and scraped and painted the exterior of a home. As they headed to New Jersey, the construction foreman called Rev. Sandy Huber with details of the project and asked how the team felt about heights. Sandy's response was "not so good."  But, before the week was over, every team member had gone beyond his or her perceived comfort zone of height and reached new depths in spiritual reflection, either remembering or discovering for the very first time that mission trips are most about experiencing the reality of God, being the body of Christ and growing in faith and discipleship.
