West Ohio pastor named discipleship chief strategist

Congratulations to Rev. Sara B. Thomas of the West Ohio Conference, who joined the staff of the denomination's Discipleship Ministries on December 1 as Chief Strategist for Vital Congregations. The appointment of Thomas to the position of Deputy General Secretary was announced by Dr. Timothy L. Bias, General Secretary (chief executive) of Discipleship Ministries. Ordained as an elder in the West Ohio Annual Conference in 2008, Thomas has served as senior pastor of Maize Manor United Methodist Church in Columbus since May. She previously served on the staff at Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church in Cincinnati.  Read more

Schooler Institute on Preaching

Leaders for the February 2015 Schooler Institute on Preaching at the Methodist Theological School in Ohio (MTSO) have been announced. Valerie Bridgeman is visiting associate professor of homiletics and Hebrew Bible at MTSO. Jorge Lockward is director of global praise for the General Board of Global Ministries. The Schooler Institute on Preaching has brought renowned preachers and worship leaders to campus to share their expertise and insights. Learn more

In this month's Foothills District newsletter, Rev. Robbie Scott points out an interesting article on bivocational ministry which he found "encouraging and relevant to many of our congregations." The article offers that pastors who serve while having occupations outside of the church setting have always been with us. And they always will be, likely even more so in the future.
