Interview with Bishop Palmer on crisis in Ferguson

Bishop Palmer at work Last week on Ministry Matters, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer and Rev. Brian Milford, Chief Content officer of Abingdon
Press and Book Editor of The UMC, discussed the shooting of Michael Brown, the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, and justice and race issues as they relate to the body of Christ.
Here's an excerpt of Bishop Palmer's comments:

"Like everyone I've had a mixture of complex feelings. I've had feelings of deep pain and anxiety that any human life would be lost and particularly to any form of gun violence authorized or unauthorized. I'm in the business of life and resurrection so it saddens me when anyone dies from gun violence. I know what it is as a young black man to be followed with suspicion; even when you haven't done anything. I know the anxiety as the parent of an African American male to teach what not to do if pulled over, and sharing how there is a greater burden placed on some demographics in relationship to how they are viewed by some law enforcement, by some people coming from other racial and cultural backgrounds."

In response we who are disciples of Jesus Christ are called to be peacemakers for the transformation of the world. Read "A Call for Peacemaking"

How your church can create short videos

movie-director-items.jpg Photos are powerful. Audio can be moving. But video is compelling. It is this collision of audio, visuals and emotion all in one package. Short videos are making all the viral rounds and are being encouraged by tools like Vine and Instragram Chances are you don't need to be convinced of this. You've probably seen a moving video and thought to yourself, "That was great. But we could never do that." That may have been true 20 years ago, but not today. Learn more
