Responding to recent U.S. disasters
|
Over the past few weeks, 18 states across the Midwest and South have been affected by tornadoes and floods. The United Methodist Church is present offering hope and relief to survivors as they seek to rebuild their lives.
There are several ways in which members of West Ohio can continue to respond.
- Pray for all affected by the violent spring storms. Consider holding a prayer service and invite members of the community to join you.
- Health Kits are in low supply and great demand across the US. Gather people together to assemble the kits and bring them to Annual Conference where they can be placed on a semi-truck. Go to Annual Conference Offering to find instructions for making health kits.
- Give to the Advance. 100% of your gift will go to support relief and recovery efforts across the United States. UMCOR has been working with leaders in each of the affected annual conferences. Give to US Disaster Response or to the Material Resource Ministry (funds are used to purchase needed supplies for kits needed in emergencies)
- We have received an invitation from the North Alabama Conference to assist by sending UMCOR trained Early Response Teams. West Ohio ERTs will be traveling to Alabama in May to assist with debris removal. Please keep these teams and the communities to which they will go in your prayers.

Welcome to Seminary Hill Farm
|
There is a sense among many current and prospective seminary students that their life's work will require a commitment to preserving, nurturing and sharing the earth's bountiful gifts. For those students and those they're preparing to serve, Methodist Theological School in Ohio has founded Seminary Hill Farm, a place of theology, ecology and good food for all. Beginning with this year's harvest, all produce served in the MTSO dining hall will come from Seminary Hill Farm. Additional campus-grown fruits and vegetables will be made available to the broader community. MTSO will reach out to partners who can help make fresh, healthful food available to those who don't typically have the financial means to access it. Learn more
