"It's not if, but when will a disaster hit," said Greg Forrester, UMCOR Assistant General Secretary Domestic Disaster Response. "Training helps so that we can be proactive, not reactive when the time arrives."
The North Central Jurisdiction Disaster Response Academy took place at Camp Asbury in Hiram, Ohio September 25 through September 28 attended by more than a dozen coordinators from West Ohio. The academy was presented in partnership with United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM). (read more)

Ohio United Methodist Clergy Renewal Scholarship |
In the biblical tradition, keeping Sabbath is essential to maintaining one's relationship with God; therefore, Lakeside Chautauqua provides a scholarship for clergy to rest, renew and deepen their spiritual lives. The scholarship provides up to four overnight stays at the Fountain Inn or Hotel Lakeside. More than 5,000 Miami Valley neighbors turned out for the Ginghamsburg Church Fall Fest on Saturday, September 7 in Tipp City, Ohio. Great community events like Fall Fest require targeted marketing and spirit-filled outreach. Specializing in social media and public relations marketing, the Ginghamsburg communication team partnered with other ministry areas to plan and promote the event. Learn how they marketed this event.

Outreach and growth teams ready to visit your church

Pictured at left is the Gospel Ensemble, one of five Outreach and Growth teams from Ohio Northern University. The outreach part involves each team using their God-given talents and abilities to enrich the churches they visit by offering a refreshing look and listen to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The growth part starts with weekly rehearsals, which include team prayer, caring and sharing. (read more)

The Small Church: The Family System Within |
In early August, Chet Pease, lay member from Gordon United Methodist Church in the Miami Valley District, along with Pastor John Gilmore and fellow lay member, Greg Bogan traveled to Sand Hill United Methodist Church in Reno, Ohio near Marietta. There they attended a session on developing effective leadership entitled "The Small Church: The Family System Read Chet's review of the training and his thoughts on the ministry of the Town and Rural Resources Program (TARRP).
