Incoming Text Message from God: U there? |
Dear West Ohio Church families:
Our 2013 West Ohio summer camp curriculum is built around this favorite passage of mine from 1 Samuel.
"Then the LORD came and stood there, calling just as before, 'Samuel, Samuel!' Samuel said, 'Speak. Your servant is listening'." I Samuel 3:10
In much the same way as Samuel, our campers will explore the two-way communication with God that leads our own faith journeys. "TXT Messages from God," will use Scripture to examine six "messages" that one might expect to receive from God throughout our lives, and how to respond in faith and with positive actions. It's every congregation's worst nightmare. Fire strikes and the church building that members have loved for decades is suddenly gone or seriously damaged. Two churches in the West Ohio Conference - First UMC in Ada and Edgerton UMC in Edgerton - along with churches in six other states understand that nightmare all too well as they recover from recent fires. 12 Vietnamese ordained local elders in mission
|
Although the government has not yet recognized The United Methodist Church in Vietnam, the church in this Southeast Asian country is experiencing phenomenal growth, in part because of the commitment of its local leadership. Twelve of those leaders were ordained Local Elders in Mission in early January. The Vietnam Mission Initiative is one of several in Southeast Asia with which the West Ohio Conference partners. Rev. Wade Giffin, Director of the Office of Ministry, traveled to Vietnam to witness the ordination and brought with him a greeting from West Ohio and Bishop Palmer. Video Greeting Read story

Success that matters....for men |
Emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically, many men feel tired. Off balance. Under pressure. And many have a lingering feeling that something just isn't right--that there must be more to life than this. The problem for many men isn't that they aren't achieving their goals. The problem is that they're often the wrong goals. This event provides a clear, biblical direction for men. It is designed to encourage them to examine their priorities and lives and find a deeper level of meaning and purpose. Session titles include:
- Finding the Purpose for Your Life
- Finding Respect and Honor at Home
- Finding a New Best Friend in Your Wife
- Finding a Deeper Personal Relationship with God

Mission Opportunities
| Mission...it's not just a trip. As United Methodists, the understanding that "we are called" and "we are sent" is at the foundation of our faith. Scripture is full of stories of persons who responded to a call and were sent on mission for God. By being a volunteer, you can make a difference in the lives of others, and your life and faith will be forever changed. Learn more about ways you can get involved!
