Institute on Preaching to feature Bishop Palmer |
United Methodist Bishop Gregory V. Palmer and scholar Marjorie Hewitt Suchocki will lead the Schooler Institute on Preaching Feb. 10-12 at Methodist Theological School in Ohio, 3081 Columbus Pike, Delaware, Ohio. Under the theme "The Other Presence in Your Pulpit," the leaders will preach, lecture and hold dialogues on the practice of preaching in the omnipresence of God. (read more)

Hamilton to preach at National Prayer Service |
WASHINGTON (UMNS) - The Rev. Adam Hamilton, pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, will deliver the sermon at the National Prayer Service this morning, Jan. 22, 10:30am EST, at the National Cathedral. President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden are expected to attend the service. Hamilton is pastor of the largest church in the United Methodist denomination.

Changes in newest Book of Discipline
| The United Methodist Publishing House has published the 2012 edition of The Book of Discipline, the basic rule book that governs The United Methodist Church from the local church through the district and Annual Conference to the global denomination.
In this article, Jim Waugh, Assistant to the Superintendent of the Capitol Area North District, takes a look at some of the changes in the new Discipline that are included in the local church administration and local church trustees sections. In addition, he reviews the various electronic versions of The Book of Discipline that are available through Cokesbury and Amazon. (read more)

| Hurricane Sandy: The East Coast is now ready to schedule Long Term Recovery Teams. Please note that team leaders MUST be trained Volunteers in Mission (VIM) team leaders. The next VIM Team Leader training is scheduled for April 20, 2013 at the West Ohio Conference Office. Nicaragua: A VIM team endorsed by the Ohio River Valley District of the West Ohio Conference will continue its work in Managua, Nicaragua June 18-26, 2013. This will be the sixth annual June VIM team working with the Foundation AMOS (A Ministry Of Sharing) which has ministries directed toward medical and educational needs in poor Nicaraguan communities. These VIM teams do a variety of ministries which will involve possible construction at a Christian school, public hospital ministry in maternity, oncology and pediatric wards (giving love gifts of layettes, health kits and toys), support of a physical therapy clinic, and Bible school and child feeding ministry supporting the Nicaragua Methodist Church. There will also be time allotted for worship and community engagement in the Nejapa barrio, the team's home base, plus sightseeing and shopping. The expected cost per person will be $1,300. Most departures will be from Columbus Ohio, however, other departure points can be arranged where available. A brochure and application form is available from jack.reif@zoomtown.com. |
