Shawnee Valley District Superintendent Appointed

Brent Watson In a press release January 14, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer announced that The Reverend Brent Watson will be appointed a conference superintendent and assigned to the Shawnee Valley District of the West Ohio Conference, effective July 1, 2013.  Watson will follow the Rev. Dr. Joseph Bishman who is retiring.  (press release)

Miami Valley Early Response Team
MIV Mission Team

The Miami Valley Early Response Team (ERT)  returned from their mission trip to New Jersey following Christmas and brought back a slide show of some of their work with the victims of Hurricane Sandy.  Keith Simpson is the Early Response Team Leader for the Miami Valley District.

Prayers for Mission Teams Leaving to Serve....
Please pray for the following teams that will be leaving West Ohio and serving.Mexico Mission
  • Mexico Medical Team to Nuevo Progreso---They leave January 17 and return on January 20th. They anticipate serving around 300 people in a 2 day clinic. 
  • Kamina Children's Home, Congo-Nancy Grandstaff and Char Ough will be leaving on January 22 and returning February 2. They will be meeting with leaders in the areas of education, health, faith and administration to develop a plan for the Kamina Children's Home to move from being an orphanage that cares for basic needs of children to a place that prepares young people to be leaders in their villages and their congregations.
  • Ohio River Valley District trip going to Colombia February 17 -25
  • The North Broadway Early Response Team (ERT) is gearing up for another deployment to New York City in February.

The teams listed above represent a fraction of the missional spirit that is bursting forth from congregations across our conference.  It is uplifting and energizing to see people touch the world and connect with others through the healing love and grace of Christ Jesus! 

Internship Opportunities

Mission interns Young adults are invited to apply for the 2013 class of Mission Interns and US-2s. Feb. 15 is the deadline to submit application materials for these long-term mission assignments through the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries.(more information)

 

West Ohio Internships:

Next Generations Leadership (NGL) Ministry Intern program is for undergraduate students interested in exploring a call to United Methodist ordained ministry in West Ohio. The 12-week paid summer internship allows selected mentors and host churches to play a critical role in the experience of each assigned intern discerning a call to ordained ministry. West Ohio Conference Position Announcements

West Ohio Conference Office Production Manager:  As a result of reorganization to further increase production capacity, a new full-time, on-site position has been created in the communications department of the West Ohio Conference Center at 32 Wesley Boulevard, Worthington, Ohio.  The Production Manager will implement, oversee and manage efficient systems for the creation and production of our West Ohio Conference publications and media.  Prior professional experience in successfully leading and managing multiple on-schedule production processes (graphic and web design, videography, multimedia) is required.   For more details plus instructions on how to apply click here:  Production Manager Application

 

Camp Director - Camp Wesley - Bellefontaine, Ohio

The West Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church is seeking a Director for Camp Wesley, a United Methodist Camp and Retreat Center in west central Ohio. The candidate will have a deep Christian faith consistent with the standards of the United Methodist Church, vision, energy and passion for the camp and retreat ministry, creative programming skills, great communication skills, a welcoming spirit of hospitality, and an unmistakable call into this ministry. The Director will oversee the entire ministry including summer program, financial and personnel management, building and grounds, food service and retreat groups. 

 

Camp Wesley is one of three camps in the West Ohio Conference of the UMC. Mrs. Esther VanScyoc, surviving spouse of Rev. Byron O. VanScyoc (Deceased - 1995), died on January 3, 2013. Funeral was held at Baker-Hazel & Snider Funeral Home in Dayton.
