Here are just a handful:

Call for Prayers, Peace, and Humanitarian Aid in Eastern Congo

Bishop Gregory PalmerIn a letter to constituents  last week, Bishop Gregory V. Palmer encouraged support for our brothers and sisters in the Congo.

"As we begin the holy season of Advent, violence seeks to squeeze the remnants of peace and hope from the people living in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.....we share a grave concern about the well-being of those living in the Eastern part of the country and wonder if their country will be plunged into another inhumane war."   (continue)

Good Shepherd UMC holds prayer service for hurricane victims
On November 6, Good Shepherd UMC in North Baltimore, OH, held a special prayer service for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The service ended with this prayer: "May our prayers strengthen you each day. May God's love surround you in every moment. May you know the blessings of peace and love, even in this time. For God is ever with us ... even to this day. Amen." To read more, click here.

REJOICE with us -- Good Works Transformation Station provided car # 101 this week. That means 101 families donated a car to Good Works and 101 families from rural southeast Ohio have received a car and now have transportation! In rural communities, transportation is the #1 issue that separates rural poverty from urban poverty. Do you know someone who might consider donating a car to Good Works?  [more]
Peace with Justice offering benefits local communities
Thanks to the generosity of local United Methodist congregations, through the yearly Peace with Justice special offering, hundreds of children and youth had a safe, healthy environment in which to spend six weeks of their summer vacation. Freedom Schools, provided in partnership with the Children's Defense Fund, are one of the main projects supported by the offering in West Ohio. To read more about Freedom Schools, click here.
Quilts of love for Congo ministry
Nancy Byrd and the congregation at Christ United Methodist Church in Kettering, know how it feels to be wrapped up in a "God-size" dream and see it come true. At a special service in May, every woman, man and child in church that day held a nine-inch square of cloth in his or her hands and prayed over it. Those cloths were sewn into quilts that will be shipped to the Congo to bring comfort to sick and suffering people.  [more]
The Least I Can Do
Have you ever asked yourself, What's the least I can do for God today? During the month of October, that's exactly what one West Ohio Conference congregation was encouraged to ask themselves, their families, and their fellow congregants. At the United Methodist Church of the Messiah in Westerville, October was declared the 'One Month of Mission' - a time to focus on outreach ministries the church is already engaged in, with a push toward getting every church member involved in at least one way. United Methodist Communications' Rethink Church has leased billboards around the United States that urge people, "This Christmas, Spend Less. Give More." The billboards note that the message is brought by the people of The United Methodist Church. The billboards are in many US cities including Dayton, OH.
Global Ministries urges prayers for just Mid-East peace
The United Methodist Board of Global Ministries released a statement November 20 condemning the violence in the Middle East and calling for prayers for a just peace for Israelis and Palestinians. The United Methodist Committee on Relief, part of Global Ministries, has reached out to partners to respond to the crisis. Global Ministries has five mission staff in the Holy Land.  [more]
United Methodists take over Pandora
On November 26, The United Methodist Church was one of only three advertisers featured on the Internet radio site Pandora. On a website that shares its name with a Greek mythical figure famous for opening a box of bad gifts, the United Methodist message  called attention to the consumerism of the season and offered an alternative focus on Christ. Through December 25, United Methodist Communications' Rethink Church also will offer a free download of "Away in a Manger.  [more]
