NJ Church Helps
The kitchen at Morrow Memorial UMC, which has hosted people affected by Hurricane Sandy.  A UMNS web-only photo by the Rev. Chris Heckert.

With help from church volunteers, Hurricane Sandy has transformed Morrow Memorial United Methodist Church in Maplewood, N.J., into a living room, office, play space and kitchen for the entire neighborhood. Full story.....

On Saturday, the community was buzzing with activity as homeowners, family and friends took advantage of the clear weather to work on the daunting task of cleanup. Volunteers from the church had already been dispatched to several homes to help in removing the waterlogged contents.  Full story.....

United Methodist Student Day is just weeks away. Be sure to order your free offering resources for this November 25 offering. This Special Sunday sets aside time to honor our students, and the offering provides scholarships and loans for those attending United Methodist-related and other accredited colleges and universities. The funds also provide financial support to help students to stay in school and focused on their studies. 10% of the money donated by West Ohio churches returns to West Ohio and is distributed as scholarships to our.  [more]

The 2012 State of the Church Report released

The newly released 2012 State of the Church Report focuses not only on traditional statistics of The United Methodist Church but also highlights ways in which the denomination is moving to create vital congregations. The report is created in partnership with the United Methodist Connectional Table, the Council of Bishops and the General Council on Finance and Administration.

 

Christmas Star proven! - facts now available
A member of Coburn United Methodist Church in Zanesville (and former astronomy teacher) has proven the existence of the Christmas star using numerous NASA astronomy computer programs. Comparing astronomy events with symbols and interpretations used by ancient sky watchers, Irene Baron discovered the Christmas star occurred directly over Bethlehem at Christ's birth in the year 4 A.D.  United Methodist chaplain Gretchen Hulse uses a Wesleyan approach to grace to bring hope to police officers who protect and serve the public every day in Pittsburgh. The department relies on an interfaith chaplaincy corps to keep its 900 officers focused and healthy.
