The Tippecanoe Arts Federation is excited to launch the Fall 2016 semester of the After School Arts Program (ASAP). ASAP is open and free to all! ASAP is designed to make a meaningful difference in the lives of youth in our community.
Most classes meet at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation, except where noted. Use the West entrance off the TAF parking lot, located off 6th Street; classes are held in the first floor rooms. Advanced registration is required.
The cost to register is 100% commitment of attendance from students and 100% engagement from parents and guardians.

Sketching and Inking Illustrations with Ree Smelser
Grades 5-8
Mondays, October 17-December 5, 5-6pm
Dip your toes into the expansive world of illustration drawing! Students will delve into character concept and design, and develop their pencil and ink drawing techniques. Choose an illustration style--from manga and Western comic to surreal and pop--and master it! Rising freelance artist Ree Smelser will guide you in this imaginative course.

Clay for Kids! with Angela Taylor
Grades K-3
Tuesdays, September 27-October 18, 4-5pm
Takes place at LaLa Gallery, 511 Ferry St.
Young artists get the chance to work in a professional clay studio! Join Angela Taylor at LaLa Gallery (located at 511 Ferry St.) as she introduces students to a wide range of clay construction methods and glazing techniques. Students will create multiple works of clay art in this exciting and hands-on class! Great for beginners and young ones.

Ceramics with Angela Taylor
Grades 4-6
Tuesdays, October 25-November 15, 4-5pm
Takes place at LaLa Gallery, 511 Ferry St.
Pinch, coil, slab, and throw in this engaging clay class! Angela Taylor will lead students at LaLa Gallery (located at 511 Ferry St.). Students will work in a professional studio to dig into a variety of ceramic forms. From clay preparation all the way to glazing and firing, students will engage all aspects of ceramic art in this popular class.

Hip Hop Dance with A League Entertainment
Grades 6-12
Wednesdays, October 12-November 19, 5-6pm
Can you pop it, lock it, and break? Well you can now thanks to this awesome dance class! Frankie Chuang of A League Entertainment will teach students all about choreography, body rhythm, and stage presence. This is a perfect class for young people looking to improve their confidence, or just looking to have the best moves at the next party!

Songwriting Master Class with Nicky Rood
Grades 7-12
Thursdays, October 6-December 15, 6-7:30pm
Welcome all budding musicians, songwriters, poets, and creative thinkers alike! This songwriting intensive will give students the foundation to practice music and writing for their entire lives. Nicky Rood, a Berklee College of Music graduate and Carnegie Hall solo performer, will push students to write a song a week to share with their peers. Don't miss this opportunity to study with an artist in the top 2 percentile of pop vocalists in the nation!

Banjo with Howie Clark
Grades 5-12
Tuesdays, October 11-December 13, 4-5:15pm
Learn to play one of the coolest instruments around, from picking, to playing by ear, and jamming with others! Students will study with the legendary Howie Clark, focusing on Bluegrass, Old-time, and Dixieland music. Last year, Banjo students got to meet Bela Fleck...what adventures will they get into this year? Come find out!

Fiddle with Julia Becker
Grades 5-12
Tuesdays, October 11-December 13, 4-5:15pm
Never held a violin before? Then this class is for you! Julia Becker and the Indiana Fiddlers' Gathering will introduce the basics of violin and fiddle in a group setting with a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Students will learn the basics of tuning, bowing, scales, and intonation before building up the confidence and techniques necessary to play simple fiddle tunes.
