Artists' Own April Events

artist own Artists' Own's "Behind the Counter" artists are Glenn Chang's landscape photographs featured through the end of March, and Terri Duncan's paint and resin pieces will be the feature during April.

 

Also, Temre Stanchfield is a brand new member of Artists' Own starting April 1. Her paintings are made up of organic material arranged in piles, stacks, and even landscapes. The end results are simulated ecosystems that capture the perennial life cycle. Check out her work.

Art with Heart!

The Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA) invites you to a free fun class to draw portraits on April 1. Draw or trace a face or profile, and add meaning with embellishments. Use simple materials in the LARA cafeteria on Tuesday, April 1. School-age children (6-15) welcome with a parent. Meet in the cafeteria from 3 or 4 pm to register. One-hour lessons begin at 3:30 & 4:30. Take one or both. Draw in any style you like!  

Purdue Musical Organizations Performances

Heart & Soul and University Choir will perform a free concert at 7:30pm on April 3 at St. Thomas Aquinas, 535 W. State St. Also, PMO will present a free show featuring the Purdue Bells, University Choir, Heart & Soul and All Campus & Community Chorale at 4:30pm on April 6 at University Church, 320 North St. Finally, PMO will present Purduette Spring Spectacular at 7:30pm on April 12 at the Long Center, 111 N. 6th St., Lafayette. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

The Songwriters Association of Mid-north Indiana is  accepting applications for the 2014 Shirley Martin Scholarship for Young Songwriters, which includes the special Mike Lane Horizon Award.    Candidates must be between the ages of 14-19 and be a permanent resident of one of the following Indiana counties to apply: Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Howard, Jasper, Montgomery, Newton, Pulaski, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Warren and White. Applications being accepted until April 4, 2014.  More info at www.samisong.com.

Lew Wallace Battles Slavery, Secessionism and Lee's Bad Old Man
Gail Stephens of Frederick, Maryland, will discuss Lew Wallace's involvement with the 1864 elections in Baltimore, his opening of a Freedman's Bureau, and how he saved Washington, D.C., during the Battle of Monocacy. Adult and Children's Classes at Flying Pig Studio
Artist Sara Vanderkleed offers adult and children's classes from her rural Tippecanoe County studio.  Flying Pig Studio is a welcoming and inspiring place to bring a group of friends for a 'wine and canvas' class or a time of meditation and art in a 'Scripture Collage' class.  She also offers a "mommy and me" class.
