Knightwatch Medieval Children's Slumber Party @ St. John the Divine
Episcopal Church Youth Group & Family Discount!
May 3 & 24, June 14 - 6:30 pm.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is pleased to announce Knightwatch Medieval, a new series of imaginative overnight experiences designed for families and groups with children ages 6 to 12. Knightwatch Medieval offers a unique blend of education, fun and fantasy under the roof of the world's largest Gothic cathedral.

The sleepover experience transports guests back in time to the age of medieval storybook kings, princesses and knights.  Within the walls of the candle-lit Cathedral participants engage in an interactive play and scavenger hunt led by a lovable court jester.  Children search for clues to assist a princess under a spell by a magician, help a pair of star-crossed lovers find happiness, and support an over-achieving knight in his attempt to get out of an unwanted betrothal.  After the play and scavenger hunt, guests celebrate with medieval dancing and singing. Keeping with the medieval theme, participants learn period dancing and do theme-based art projects including creating clay gargoyles and making brass rubbings.  At the close of the evening, a resident storyteller lulls participants to sleep under the protective arches of the Nave.

All Knightwatch Medieval activities are led by Cathedral staff dedicated to keeping the activities fun, educational, and safe.

A limited number of regularly priced $135.00 tickets are being offered to Episcopal Church youth groups and families at a 50% discount of $65.00 per person for the March 22nd sleepover!  (Please note: one adult must attend for every 3 children participating.) To take advantage of this offer, please click on this link, https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe/9734742 , and enter "knight" into the promotional code box. Food is a commodity, a cultural symbol, a vital element of life and a source of inspiration and innovation for scientists, chefs, farmers and the rest of us. Following in the path laid by the September 2011-March 2012 exhibition, The Value of Water: Sustaining a Green Planet, the Cathedral is preparing to explore the cultural, social, spiritual, and creative aspects of this life-sustaining sustenance in all its variety, through an integrated series of discussions, art installations, and community outreach.

August 7-11, 2013

What does it mean to be our own person, to be free, to be engaged in love, struggle and service together? We will explore these questions as we travel.

The Anti-Racism Committee is leading a pilot project which will take a group of ten students in grades eight, nine or ten to Hayneville, AL.

  • Travel by train from New York City to Washington, DC; Visit the Smithsonian's Civil Rights Era exhibit
  • Overnight train to Atlanta, GA; visit sites related to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Van to Hayneville for a youth lock-in on Friday evening; participate in the annual march and celebration of the life and work of the heroic, young, Episcopal seminarian, Jonathan Daniels, who was a martyr for justice and freedom and who is included in Holy Women, Holy Men.
  • Return to New York by train on Sunday, August 11th.

The group will have two preliminary meetings in June and July to become familiar with the life and times of Jonathan Daniels and how his ideas impact us today. Is yours a faith worth dying for? Explore with us where Jonathan Daniel's found his faith, and how it can live on today in you.

Contact Carla Burns at biblio999@gmail.com or 845.446.0626 if you can recommend a young person who gain and contribute from this experience.

Walk in the Footsteps of Christ Pilgrimage to the Holy Land
June 28-July 9, 2013

Once in a lifetime the opportunity comes to journey on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land with family, friends, and fellow Christians. You and your friends are warmly invited to become pilgrims with us next summer!
Our group of pilgrims will travel from New York to Israel on June 28, 2013 for a twelve day pilgrimage through the Holy Land. We will walk on the same hills, paths and roads where Jesus walked, we will see and touch the waters in which Jesus was baptized and upon which he walked. We will visit and pray in the same holy places where Christians have worshiped for two thousand years. In the summer of 2013 you have the opportunity to become a pilgrim and walk in the footsteps of Christ and his apostles.  Accommodations include all meals.

Please contact Matthew Mead at mead@goodshepherdny.org  or 914-471-0260 or www.goodshepherdny.org  for more information.

Clergy ID cards
Clergy ID cards are available from Andrew Gary in Diocesan House.  An ID card is useful when entering hospitals on pastoral calls, and can also identify you to emergency personnel when that unfortunate need arises.  While optional, we recommend having one "just in case."  Andrew is generally available Monday-Friday 9:30-11:30am and 1:30-4:30pm.  To be on the safe side, make an appointment by email to agary@dioceseny.org or call 212-932-7322.  (For those who can't travel to the Diocesan offices during business hours, Andrew can make a card using an emailed digital photograph, and send it to you in the mail.)
