Update on the Diocese
From the Rev. Stephen Harding
Diocesan Response Coordinator
Good Morning -
A major effect of Sandy is a loss of power throughout the Diocese. According to Governor Cuomo's office (http://www.governor.ny.gov/poweroutageinfo , downloaded 10/31/12), as of 8:00pm last night, over a million power outages in the Diocese of New York had been reported.(See below for a listing of power outages by county/area)
In New York City, the biggest issues are the water damage in low-lying areas, power outages below 34th Street, and trees down. North of the City, the issues are power outages, numerous trees down and roads being cleared.
Bishop Dietsche has spoken with many of the clergy in New York City and done a survey of other parts of the Diocese - he reports that on the whole, our people and our Churches seem to be in good shape.
I have emailed all the area and regional Deans for an update on the situation and conditions in their Deaneries. The early reports are of minimal damage so far.
Please be reminded of the New York State Resource Information below.
Thank you for all that you are doing, and I look forward to seeing you at Convention on Friday.
God bless you,
Stephen+
