SSC Shadow Select teams competed in the fall 2012 District 6 League. Many are continuing over the winter with optional indoor soccer seasons.
Some teams scored many, some teams scored often and yet some teams found goals few and far between. The score line is not to be confused with success. The priority for our players is to enjoy the athletic endeavors and environment that they choose to participate in. The smiles and high-fives and hugs were constant, well maybe not so many hugs on the boy's side, but the excitement remained! We thank our volunteer coaches for their time, effort and commitment to guide these players!

Sean's Spiel
We've entered the Winter soccer season, which brings the unique experience of playing in the cold with snow, sun and everything in between! We've spent many hours clearing fields for home games, and have had great assistance from the City. Sometimes, it seems like a lot of work; sometimes it is.With work comes sacrifice, dedication and commitment. Is it all worth it? Yes! I exchange books with a friend of mine each Christmas. This season he gave me Spark by John Ratey. It reflects around the resounding effects exercise has on our brain, health and well being. I highly recommend it. (I gave him Unbroken, which I also highly recommend!) One of Rateys' consistent messages is how we are designed to move and interact with others. It is needed for a healthy life. We have our children play sport for a variety of reasons. One of the by products is the opportunity to instill life lessons and life-long habits. Youth sport is a healthy option for so many reasons. The wins and losses are just markers along the pathway of life. I believe any parent would say all they really want for their child is to be healthy and able to trek through this journey believing in who they are as a person, pursuing their dreams with confidence, humility and joy. Sport, just as in life, does not always go how we would like. If you are a Seahawks player or fan, the Falcons field goal was not what you would hope for, nor would you hope for a season ending knee injury for your top defensive lineman. (If you are an Arsenal fan, you have had this feeling for a long time now!) However, life does move on; you become stronger from it if you want to do so. If you embrace challenges and set backs with more energy and focus, you will come back stronger. Reality is though, you need others to help you along the way. RG III needs it. Derek Rose needs it. We all need others. Being on our own makes things more difficult. In soccer, this is why our teammates are so important. In youth soccer, this is why adults are so important. Adults (coaches, parents, etc.) are to keep it in perspective for the children. Adults are suppose to be there to support our children. They need us; they will learn from us. In turn, they will teach their future children. Our kids can do great things; they just need us to support them. This is why I can finish shoveling a field of snow and feel good about it. All we have to do is turn and look at our young players playing. This is the joy they give back to us, ten-fold. So, I thank you for the support of the children in our club! In the Spirit of the Game, Sean Bushéy Technical Director, SSC Shadow

Abbas Addresses...Fun, Unique Training!
We belong to a great club! We know we must continue to strive to be better, but we also know we have great kids involved in our programs. As a club, we are here to serve players. We do this through our program offerings providing different opportunities and levels of development for players at all stages of their soccer career, unmatched in our region. One example is found with our U11 RCL teams. The U11 RCL year is the first step toward the level of commitment and development needed to compete at the highest level in our great state of Washington: the Regional Club League. Our U11 RCL teams participate in District 6 league play, but the training calendar mirrors our U12-U14 RCL teams.
This winter our U11 RCL teams have enjoyed a free, weekly indoor soccer league, courtesy of Cravens Coffee! It's a joy to watch our players intermix 5v5 in a competitive, controlled environment. Points are given to every player on each team that wins and every goal scored. A running tally is kept for each player while they are being coached, so these games get really competitive! Seeing the smiles on every face as their joy and love for this game shines through is priceless. What a fun, great club we are fortunate to have! Go SSC Shadow!

Wellness: Knee Meniscus Injuries by APEX Physical Therapy The scenario is repeated often on the soccer field: a player goes down, grabbing their knee in agony and eventually, is helped off the field. Word comes back: a torn meniscus.
What does this mean? The menisci of the knee are 2 "C" or "U" shaped wedges of cartilage between the major bones of the knee ( the tibia and femur) which help to stabilize the knee, absorb shock and protect the articular cartilage covering the bones of the knee joint. Read more
